Charging flap frozen

Get the vaseline on it (or light grease) as a preventive measure

Supposedly Vaseline is not good for rubber as it is petroleum-based ... silicon spray is supposed to be better.

Just fought with a frozen charge flap on my car.
10 minutes with a hairdryer and much thumping finally opened it.
Christ knows what you’d do if you were public charging somewhere.

I’ve got silicone spray lubricant in the garage.
All around the door, or just on the locking pin bit?
Didn’t feel like it was the door that was frozen, definitely felt pin related (but could be mistaken)

Scream at the sky..spray around the edges of the flap and the inner edge. We'll soon find out if it's the locking pin but I hope that would/should have been greased!! Do no harm to spray a bit on there while you are at it...

Viz readers tips
Get a v2l plug and keep a kettle and a large bottle of water in the boot just in case. In the occurrence of frozen flaps heat water in the kettle ̶P̶u̶l̶l̶ ̶d̶o̶w̶n̶ ̶t̶r̶o̶u̶s̶e̶r̶s̶ and pour over frozen flap accordingly ?

Spray some on the locking pin bit and the rubber around the flap.

I've got a small tin of silicon plumbers grease which I'm going to wipe all the rubber seals with and a silicon spray for all the places I can't reach like the mirror mechanisms, door handles, charging flap release catch etc.

I shall put some of these hand warmers in the car when I get it. if you hold against the charging flap or frozen washer nozzles I hope they will melt the ice. Amazon product ASIN B08GCT8SXZ

Plastic is not a very good conductor. If it is the locking pin that's frozen those are unlikely to help.

I have the same problem today. I have warned it up for several minutes with the hair dryer but it is not releasing. Did the solutions proposed in this thread work?

With the recent cold weather I have been unable to charge my MG4 due to not being able to open the flap to get to the charge port where it has frozen.

Has anyone else had this problem and have a fix to stop it from freezing?

I am unable to put the car into shelter or a garage overnight.
we had the same , used hot water then when it freed sprayed it all with WD40

Kia EV6 owners were reporting this morning that their door handles had frozen closed so they couldn't get in their cars. I'm not disappointed that the MG4 has real handles!
Used to happen all the time on my Fiat Barchetta, matchstick under the handle to keep it proud of the door overnight was the simple fix

Mine also froze at the first recent cold snap.
Made me look like a right twonk at the Tesla Fast Charger.
Casually and rhythmically ****ting it, til it popped open.

Liberal squirt of ACF50 (or similar) into the mechanism, and it has behaved impeccably ever since.

Pardon my English but what do you mean with rhythmically ****ting it?

You can't beat a bit of anti-****ting spray ?

I use WD40 silicone spray in the lock and Nextzett Gummi Pflege on the rubber seal. I also did the door locks and the door rubbers.

In the end I called MG assistance and the were able to open the flap somewhat forcefully. Good news is that I can charge again, the bad news is that I can no longer close the flap.

I’m booked for January 31st for a SW update and they will try to fix the flap as well.

The charging flap on our MG4 would not close on a very frosty morning in the recent cold weather.

The problem was ice behind the rubber seal (on the flap) which had pushed it 'out of shape'.

Some hot water and gentle prodding with a screwdriver enabled the removal of the ice, closure of the flap and a working car :)
