Hi, I plan to go on holiday to Porthcawl in South Wales for a holiday at the end of July which was originally okay as my EV was not going to be delivered until after that, but now I can have one sooner as I am willing to change colour, so it looks like I will be taking the EV on holiday.
So I was wondering if any one has used the granny charger/three pin plug to charge the EV from a Static Caravan 13 Amp outlet, as Porthcawl looking on Zap Map does not have any public fast/rapid chargers around?

I would imagine it should work the same as plugging in at home.

Have you tried the app “PlugShare”? From what I can tell people can allow others to charge up from their home chargers for a fee, just have to arrange beforehand with the owner. You may have more luck finding a somewhat “faster” charger than the granny

Yes, I've done it, but make surre the site owners are agreeable to you doing it (one site I tried it at didn't like the idea and said no).

I have done the same thing myself on a couple of occasions, while paying a day visit to relatives who own a static caravan in Harlech ( Wales ).
The van was new and the electrics where in great condition of course.
I made sure that when I charged with the Granny, that no high load items ( kettle etc ) was being used at the same time.
I ran an extension cable from a socket outlet in the bedroom, through the window and then into the car via the “Granny” cable.
I had it on charge for just over one hour and it worked absolutely fine.
When I unplugged the unit etc, the top of the heavy duty 13 Amp three pin plug was warm,
Not hot, but warm to the touch.
I would just exercise common sense and keep a check on things on a regular basis.
I would check with the owner prior to charging though.

An hour? So what +10miles ?
Presume this was for theory testing purposes?

I wouldn't ask - let them tell you "no"?

We have rented a vacation home through work, we pay a fixed price for the stay, and water/heating/electricity is included.

There were very few rules in the mail i got regarding this place, but one that they had, and that was a bit more prominent than the other few rules were

It is NOT allowed to charge electric vehicles, and Hybrid cars from the outlets in your holiday home.

I am CERTAIN that this rule has been implemented because someone did not ask, but just connected their car and filled it to the brim, with "free" electricity, costing our company a lot of money :)

How did it cost your company? You mention it was a fixed price...

It's a 13A (max) plug in charger?!?

If that "blows a fuseboard" there's something wrong with their fuseboard?

Depends

I have been to camping sites, where they told us that the fuses were only 6A. This is a way of supplying electricity to the campervans for lighting, and whatnot, but NOT to run electric ovens and so on.

I suspect them to be doing this, partly because it will limit how much electricty can be used, and also because they wanted to minimize the wiring they had to draw to each distribution box. Cable in larger dimensions get really expensive, really fast.

Well yes that's "camping" Vs static caravans (with amenities like kettles, TVs, ovens etc)

Yes, i pay a fixed price to them, they still have to pay for the actual use.

It is a lot easier for them, not to have to read the meter every week and have people pay for their individual use.

But if average use for a week, is, say 100 Kwh, but some guy charged his car, and used, maybe 300 Kwh, the average for everyone would have to go up.

Oh true enough.

These Air BnB second home types will have to address it somehow I suppose but it won't be cheap or easy as someone will always potentially hang an extension out the window & plug in....
