The statement "The vibration that you refer to is present on all vehicles of this model" is a lie as mine is fine, no vibrations at all to concern me.

Yep totally agree. I've driven three X-powers extensively and only one had the issue - unfortunately for me this was the one I purchased.

I also had an e-mail from a sales manager at Howards who stated that of the 10 X-Powers he'd sold, only 1 had the issue. I forwarded this email to Gary Smart as part of my evidence that this statement was untrue - strangely heard nothing back as it doesn't suit their corporate narrative.

And mine are now so negligible as to be unnoticeable.
I've said it before but just check they are running the tyres at 40psi from cold.

Made ALL the difference in my case.

Further reply from Gary Smart at MG uk (I replied pointing out that their ‘stance’ that this issue effected all x-power vehicles was incorrect, together with some evidence of this, which he strangely ignored) :-

Thank you for your email, and although I do appreciate your frustration, there is no ‘stance’ as you state from MG.

We know that all MG4 XPower, currently include this characteristic, usually around 60-70 mph.

Although there is no manufacturing defect, we are taking customer feedback seriously and are working on solutions to improve driver experience. We realise the disappointment and inconvenience that this is causing.

Whilst it is good practice for us to do this, for many reasons, we are under no obligation to do so. We are taking this action to recognise and improve customer satisfaction with the vehicle and you should keep in touch with your MG dealership for future updates.

I am truly sorry for any inconvenience caused in the meantime.

I reckon the latter for existing owners I'm afraid ?.... especially after reading that email.

A fix may come on new cars eventually but words like "working on solutions to improve driver experience" suggests to me there is no cost effective fix for existing cars. Hope I'm wrong !!

So to update this one, today I collected the car. The dealer had fitted new Michelin tyres and the master technician to me out in a drive in it to show the vibrations were subtly improved (we did this back to back with their X-Power demo which unfortunately did also have bad vibes).

Technician was a good chap and explained how frustrating it was to be stuck-in-the-middle if of the situation between customers and MG. He did have confirmation though that MG China were about to release some 'revised suspension components' to help with the problem which he has promised to chase MG on a weekly basis and will order for fitment to our car as soon as they were available, although what the components actually are and when they will be available is anyone's guess.

Had a meeting with the Service Manager at the dealer too and went through the above reply from Gary Smart - he seemed genuinely shocked at the response and could fully understand how damaging this is to the brand and how frustrating for customers.

Vibrations are definitely better with the new tyres but far from gone but honestly just glad to be back in the car again and to move-on from this draining experience. Five weeks in an MG5 was plenty.

Now just looking forward to enjoying the car - booked in for ceramic coating tomorrow and dashcam/audio upgrade and towbar fitting next week.

Just got back from my local MG dealer with my vibrating Xpower. I took it there to see if they could do anything about the vibration/throbbing between 58 and 72 MPH that it has had from new. It’s now done about 800 miles. Unsurprisingly there is no simple fix.

Their inspection report was as follows:

“Inspected the vehicle and also another same vehicle and both vehicles have the same vibrations and distortional noise. Suspect it is characteristic of the vehicle”

I noticed they also had one more Xpower in the service area.

They did not know how to fix the problem and said I should contact MG for a solution. I got the impression they were not getting much help from MG UK.

Interestingly they tried rebalancing the front wheels and on the drive home it was a lot worse. This seems to point to a balance issue in wheel/drive train somewhere. If the problem was anywhere other than my usual cruising speed I could live with it, but at 60-70 MPH it’s very irritating.

I have had the car for 28 days so when does the 30 day rejection time run out ? Or does the fact that I have reported it to a dealer stop that clock ?
