Crash due to Lane keep assist.

To be honest I'm suprised that its taken this long for someone to report an accident because of LKA - too late for you but just put the car in towing mode - as it permamently switches off LKA (down side is parking sensors no longer work)
How do you put the car into towing mode? I've not seen a menu option for that (my MG4 is the Thai Model X which is believe is the same as the UK Trophy).

On the Australian version of the Trophy it's all the way near the bottom on the same page where you set up your driver assists (ACC, ELK, etc.)

I've heard a lot about LKA on MG4 being really bad, but my experience is that it is no different than my previous car. Interestingly, LKA triggers at the exact same spots for both cars on my daily commute.
The only difference was that turning off LKA on the previous car was a button-push on the steering wheel. When we went up the winding roads of A595, we simply set Assist to Off, speed to Manual Limit and LKA off. The moment we got onto M6, we reset the mode to Assist On, LKA On.
I understand that some users may not want to fiddle with this, but I this is not a self-driving car. You still need to manage the modes.

Now, if you have some ideas to stop the aggressive override that 360 cam has over navigation, I would like to know. That's the one that tripped me up as I needed Google Maps to tell me which lane to take and the 360cam kept on getting in the way.

There's an option in the settings to turn off the camera view when you use the indicators. Is this what you mean?

You can disable that, with it only activating when the car is put into reverse gear, or when you specifically select to view the 360° camera.

Quick question to anyone and everyone; Can LKA be turned off permanently?
(If this comment is in the wrong place please will the moderators post it under the correct topic, thanks.)

Like Rolfe I turn off LKA nearly every time, because this feature really annoys me when driving along the smaller roads near me where you have to cross the painted lines to avoid overhanging trees and hedges etc.
I've noticed too that the LKA reverts back, when you've left the car, not locked it, and then got back in driven off.

Official answer - No. Real answer - it depends. Some early cars had a foible wherein once it was off it stayed off, but this was never by design - it was a foible caused (probably) by a combination of hardware and software revisions of various modules which allowed this to occur.

The NCAP 5 star rating requires LKA to default to on.

I agree. Surely lka isn't an mg only system it's the same system made by Bosch or someone on most other cars

Saw this on MGs website.

Would this help customers to get redress regarding issues with software updates and problems with LKA etc...?

I was casually turning off LKA in preparation to driving home from choir practice last night, and remarked to my passenger, that didn't take long, did it? She said, what didn't take long? I explained about disabling LKA. Would you believe that there are people who (claim to be) selling their cars because doing that at the start of each journey is too much trouble? You're kidding me, was the reply.

It's really not the point is it, the system in some instances is still dangerous, poor at best.
If the car has a system it should just work, or if as MG do they know it's crap give the ability to assign it to a steering wheel button in the absence of a dedicated physical button.

Maybe thats the reason they're selling them rather than it's too much trouble!!

The LKA does work, and it works as per the NCAP spec. I've had my MG4 for a year, and the LKA has been present all along, it twitches occasionally, but it's hardly 'dangerous'; I've never been caught out by it, the conditions it kicks in are entirely predictable.

I know other people have problems with it, but for you, a non-MG driver, to condemn a car that you have presumably not even driven is a bit rich.

I'd follow the advice given in your profile pic...

Insulting towards others (mild)

A bit rich is making an assumption because we all know how that turns out!!

Just because your LKA works doesn't mean everyones does and the fact over two years in it's still not rectified for everyone speaks volumes.

Back to the assumption bit I have driven an MG4 on numerous occasions and if you have read any of my previous posts you would have known my wife has one as a company car, has done for a year, and it is currently one of 3 ev's sitting on my drive so I have a direct comparison of various versions of the system from various manufacturers and it is the worst!!

[Gratuitous snark deleted.]

In practice it is the point, though. The system is what it is. We, as individuals, can't change that. So it's a choice between turning it off when we get in the car, or dropping thousands in depreciation to change cars. For something that might not be all that much better. If the car was a lemon otherwise I could see the attraction in changing, but it's not. And it takes seconds to turn the damn thing off.
