Cyberster almost here - thoughts

Carwow has reviewed the colour combination I would want, cream with a red roof. They went with the 4 wheel drive, but I would happily take 2 wheel drive and more range.

Their conclusion was mixed, if you are looking for a sports car, don't bother, if you are looking for a cruiser, do. I am a cruiser, so the Cyberster has leapt to the top of my list of, if I won the lottery....

I think the 2 wheel drive is the better bet... 100kg less, significantly more range and likely to be a more fun drive than the 4wd version (yes it is slower but still fast enough for most).

Had they brought the 64kWh 2wd version to the UK for £45,000 would have been really tempting - even lighter, and around 260 miles range plenty.

I thought this was English White, slightly off white. Youre right because people called my white nissan 370 cream. Especially in the evenings ?. Pearl White

I see MG call it "New English White" as opposed to the traditional. "Old English White is a timeless creamy white with tan undertones". It looks old to me!

You getting a trophy? I'm waiting for a test drive. No news yet though. Will be late August i reckon then pick from pre built cars in China..the dealer is having the showroom redesigned. I think specs like red roof or certain combos might delay delivery.

They always make a big thing about "sporty" handling. It'll be plenty sporty. Unless you drive like an utter maniac everywhere at the very edge of losing control, you'll never notice much difference between the Cyberster and something honed for absolute performance.

I'm liking the 2wd option too, but hate the wheels on it, so would have to spend extra on buying the larger wheels and tyres of the 4wd, so that would close the price difference gap to almost nothing and bring down the range!

Performance aside, the "feel" of 4wd cars in normal use is very different to RWD, which is arguably better from my experience. I'm going to have to drive both I think...

Speaking to a salesperson today who said MG updated dealers last night that cars were arriving in the country soon and demo ones would be at dealerships by end of August. There are also ‘some’ customer cars with that delivery but the dealers hadn’t been told what colour combos yet so couldn’t reliably inform customers if they were going to have their car or not. I was very tempted to place a 2nd deposit with them just to double my chances of getting one of the first ones.

I have a dilemma. We currently have a ZS EV which we love. We are lucky in that we have one car in the family but in the near future that will change and we will need a second. As the ZS will be the main car we can pretty much get what we want. So, I show the better half the Cyberster, explain that the lease through work (salary sacrifice) would make it very affordable for us and she agrees. Only problem now is we will likely need something before the Cyberster is available to order. We could buy a really cheap run around in the meantime but that is a huge argument waiting to happen as neither of us would want to drive anything other than electric.

My understanding is the cars have arrived in the UK but there are paperwork delays getting them to clear customs (as it is a new vehicle and needs all the approvals), so deliveries to dealers of demonstrators and first customer cars have been put back a few weeks.
Sounds bout right. ?
Red Tape, Red Tape, Red Tape.
Something we do very well.:rolleyes: ?

I was able to order mine via salary sacrifice

Southampton port? I cant imagine the headache involved....thats an 18 hour day clearing, testing, insuring one private car....imagine 100s....Like i guessed premade cars to ship unless a unique combo is requested. , October is looking likely for some orders. Similar to the first pre release cars in China which arrived October/November last year. It could be worse lol

The MG4 launch was the same. 3 trims & 6 colours, so they just loaded ships with a random assortment for the first few trips

Thanks, hopefully I’ll be able to do the same soon. My company uses LeasePlan. Not listed yet and I have called them but they couldn’t really help other than to say keep checking.
Yeah, won't be far off, they have all the necessary data to price things up, as of beginning of month. I would recommend spending what you would spend on an interim car, on alternative transport methods, unless MG mention some massive delay to pre-orders

Not sure how committed MG are to selling this car in UK. I have signed up twice on their web site to get notifications about the Cyberster and have not heard a thing!

Mike, initial orders have been taken by dealers. You are better off signing up with one of them - not sure where you are but there will be a dealer near you selling them. First deliveries expected in August.

Like many of you, I assume, I have been watching this Cyberster story for the last three years. I was very interested at concept, and felt that MG would produce this car very much more affordably, come the time of Launch.

We obviously have our own governments rip off duties and tariffs to upt the cost (to a point where we now have to pay even more running costs, such as ‘premium’ EV road tax), but I think that due to the long lead in time between initial cost of the vehicle to the UK market, to where we are now, I have become desensitised to the overall price point.

This car is now at a purchase price that is at the very end of my budget. I really want the car (desire over finances lol), but convincing myself …. “You only live once” ….Twice if you are James Bond.

Having been an early adopter for the MG4, (one of the first delivered to the UK back in September 2022), I have become a fan of MG, however there are things that get reet on my nerves with my car, although I am a lot more susceptible to buying again from the brand.

I guess my question is, having first seen this car grow from drawing board to production, are you going to step up and blow the kids inheritance on this car?

My thoughts are getting quotes on PCP for a brand new car (with a better interest rate) or buy a used version of this car (saving many thousands at initial cost, yet increased payments on used car due to rubbish expensive PCP/HP deal?

I know how much I lost on the MG4 after six months, and frankly that sticks in my throat.

Sorry for the long post…..just wanted to see if any out there have an opinion, and it would honestly help me with my decision……so totally selfish LOL…sorry.
Consider how much inheritance tax you will deny our thieving government if you buy the car ?.
Personally if I had £60k I would buy the ioniq 5 N.
The cybester looks & drives great & I would love a set of the 20 inch wheels for my x power. I had an SLK 250amg convertible & Loved it, but only 2 seats does get annoying at times.
