Sorry if this is a silly question but I've searched and can't find an answer.

What do I need to do to enable the grey cars/bikes showing on the left of the drivers display?

I've tried a number of combinations of ACC, TJA and LKA but it never shows anything. I thought it might be because I have an SR but I've seen it in photos of other SRs. An example of the "grey cars" below.

It's going in to the dealer on Wednesday for the oil leak so need to know if I should add this to the list.

You need to overtake a car/bike (to show on the left) and/or have one overtaking you (to show on the right). Your picture shows that the car has recognised the car in front.

What happens if you drive down a motorway?

Sorry, to be clear the picture above is a screenshot from a youTube video.

I have never seen a grey car or bike on the drivers display in over 2 weeks of driving on mixed roads. Does it require certain settings to enable it?

Hmm .. it's not something I've looked at really. I do know that it works fine on mine if I have ACC or TJA active, and if I press the accelerator (to override the ACC/TJA) then vehicle detection disappears until I lift off and let the car take over again.

I don't believe this is something you can toggle on or off, it's an intrinsic behaviour of the car. Very odd that it's not showing anything.

So it should show all of the time or only when ACC/TJA is enabled? I'm getting a few mixed messages :)

I just realised that in the screenshot above the assist symbol is grey so disabled and they are still getting vehicle detection. Are you sure yours is working correctly @siteguru ?

I'll ask the dealer to have a look just to make sure

I don't know - I've not paid any attention to it when I haven't had ACC/TJA set. That doesn't mean it doesn't detect, just that I've not been aware of it.

FWIW I have seen it detect a motorbike, and show the relevant symbol. Likewise for a truck. So it does intrinsically know the relative size differences. (On my car at least).

And is the windscreen clear? (It also uses the camera behind the "triangle" section to verify what the radar sees - and I think it's that camera which determines the size of the vehicle).

I did have a quick look (in the dark) and couldn’t see any obvious “radar” on the front bumper. Any pointers where I should be looking to clean other than the front window triangle?

Mine was on when i first got my car as well and it has long since stopped and I also cannot figure out how to turn it back on.

I asked this question in another thread, and it was explained to me that these grey vehicles appear when Adaptive Cruise Control (or Traffic Jam Assist as well, I imagine) is selected in the infotainment screen.

If you select that, it doesn't mean it's turned on, it just means that whichever option you've selected is posed and ready to go if you use the left-hand steering wheel button to engage it. So if you just want to drive yourself, with no ACC or TJA, but you want to see the shadow vehicles, just select ACC and don't do anything else.

Then, when your passenger asks if the car has cruise control, you can say, well it has but I've never tried it, press a few buttons, and somehow, by some miracle, find yourself following the car in front as if you were being towed!

I believe this feature uses the windscreen mounted camera. I would check that this is aimed correctly on your car, if it's blocked on not pointing at the road then that could be a reason why the cars are not appearing on the screen.
