Hi all.
I have a MG3+Hybrid. I've only done 1000 miles and an engine light has come on which, according to the manual is an Emissions fault. Anybody know what this is about and any other input would be grateful to hear, as I'm a bit worried, very annoyed and taking a big sigh right now.

You sure the petrol cap is done up to specification (1 or 3 clicks) - that is the most common cause of the light.

edit: if you find it loose it will take a few drives for the light to go off again once tightening.

It's not necessarily an emissions fault Ann, did it just come on once, or is it on all the time. If it doesn't clear itself, it should go back for the Dealer to have a look.

This is very useful, it's amazing how many weird little things can bring the Engine Warning light on on modern cars.

Glad it helped :)

EVAP systems have been around since 1995ish for emissions reasons

On hybrids especially, the petrol system is normally permanently pressurized, except for refueling. This is so that the petrol lasts longer, as water vapour is not able to get in. Excess pressure is burnt off in the engine. If the system detects a leak, it will throw on the emissions light

As a useful tip, the Engine warning light and the emissions warning light look very similar, but are different on the MG.

An EML with an exclamation mark [!] shows an issue with the engine.

I think I posted in the wrong place before...
This evening the Emissions warning fault appeared. I did try the fuel cap trick but without success, and I even tried filling up as the fuel was a bit low also without success.
As I said elsewhere, I am going to have to try MG Service but I'm not filled with optimism given that my dealers service department never answer the phone!
Budget brand = Budget service!

Not good to hear this @KeithS, unfortunately you won't get an answer over the phone, because they will have no idea what's causing the light to come on. When you get the car back to them, they will plug it into their diagnostic equipment (laptop) to check for the fault, and in all likelihood, they will just reset it to remove the light without actually being able to discover what exactly the fault is.

I think you're absolutely right... I rang my dealership and as is the case these days, went straight through to a call centre. Laughably the earliest appointment with my local dealer was the 2ND OCTOBER!
However if I go further afield another branch can fit me in on the 29th August, with a £35 charge for a courtesy car.

OMG that's terrible Keith.

I live in Harrow which is a NW London suburb, the dealer appointment next Thursday is in St Albans which whilst not exactly local is doable.
From ringing around, all MG dealers have these hopeless delays, and one dealer that I spoke to (again not local), was aware of the issue and explained MG know about the problem and have issued a software update which I suppose is something. As regards an appointment, he said grab that one next Thursday as that is pretty good as regards lead times for bookings.
I've said on here many times before, in the past MG was a small scale budget brand in the UK, and as a result they could get away with these sort of problems, probably because they had a limited customer base and the handful of dealers could 'sort of' muddle through. Now as a brand enjoying a wave of success and particularly with more expensive cars (Cyberster) customers will expect better.

By way of a small (no progress!) update, the Engine emissions fault is still present after this week. I’m still booked in with Glyn Hopkins St Albans for Thursday.
From doing a bit of googling the fault could be the oxygen sensor, or as I’ve already been told could require a software update as a known fault.
It’s interesting how others have rectified the problem with the fuel cap, but that it didn’t work for my car.

What was the outcome at the service centre Keith? Curious as my car (2021 HS PHEV) has just begun having the same problem, tightening fuel cap correctly also hasn’t fixed and light still on a week later.

The car went into Glyn Hopkins St Albans on Thursday. This was a known fault that MG produced a software update for.
The update was carried out and the fault sorted.
Also I think for the period of a week and a half there was a drop in fuel economy. Whilst not certain I think its connected with the oxygen sensor not being read properly by the ECU.
I would certainly book your car in with your local dealer.
On that note there is something a little odd about the booking lead times. Every dealer group apart from the dealer in St Albans was quoting appointments months away. Yet I have since discovered that the branch of Glyn Hopkins in Mill Hill where I bought the car, and who quoted me an available date of the 2nd October, apparently really had space for next week. So it would seem some dealer groups are discouraging customers from making appointments!! There seems to be something afoot....

You may well be right. They are possibly, still evaluating whether they want to go down the route of a large-scale recall or whether they can keep things low-key, particularly this early into the launch of the car.
They will be looking at the potential number of cars affected and how these can be scheduled without sending out negative vibes in terms of sales.

Hi I've got the the same car as you and its already been back twice with the same problem as you described the told me it's the Egm temp sensor, had it replaced under warranty, the next day it same thing happened again so it's now back in the garage, only had the car 3 months and done 1200 miles, take it back to where you brought it, and ask for a courtesy car while it's being repaired, they also informed me that I shouldn't be driving it, good luck
