We went up to the airport in Auckland tonight to pick somepne up. While we were waiting for them I refueled. Picked them up and started our drive back to hamilton 120kms away. After 5 mins the yellow picture of an engine came up on the dashboard. We stopped at the next station as we were on the expressway. Checked the book and it said it was engine emmissions motor fault. Checked oil water temp by feeling the radiator it was fine. I didn't want to go any further with the light on even though it felt fine so I rung up the AA breakdown service we are a member of. They came out within 30 mins and he checked then got his diagnistic tool out and plugged it in and it came up with a strange name, He looked it up and its the emmissions sensor. Checked some more and I remembered I'd seen it online that the fuel cap not tight enough could cause it. He checked that out after I pushed the fuel release and said it wasnt very tight even after he turned it until it clicked hard. I had posted here before about the fuel cap being so tight I had to lossen it with a spanner now it comes off with just a forceful twist.. So he cleared the error code and the light was off when we started again. Drove another 1.5 hrs to get home and it was fine no light on.
Calling MG service tomorrow to get it checked out. Scary when it comes on when you are on the highway !!
