Full Size Spare Wheel

I got a full size spare for my ZS EV from a breakers in NI, off Ebay. Cost about £150, with a nearly new tyre on it (from a crashed car), so worth that for the tyre alone. Getting a small jack proved a bigger problem, the cheap scissor jacks on Ebay turned out to be really hard work to jack up the car with the weight of the batteries. Plus they show jacks with CE marks in the pictures, but the one they sent wasn't marked. Fits under floor of boot of you put the board on higher setting, but does make the boot smaller.

I am looking for a spare wheel set for ZS and some MG dealers have them for almost £300 which is crazy. You can buy a space saver to fit your car for about £130 online, Google it and a few suppliers pop up ...
one seller on eBay sells what they say are original MG spares but too expensive .. the other option is car breaker yards - but, looking at £200 for 1 alloy wheel ...
(don't you have a free AA cover with MG?)
I got a 18 inch space saver and jack from a guy in Birmingham for £125 cash,I will sort his details out if you wish, where do you live ?

Thanks but I'm not going to get it yet, realised the other day that my boot "insert" would not take a spare wheel, it's square shaped for tyre sealant stuff so need to think about it ... maybe I'll try some DIY Styrofoam cutting project first ... ?

I’m not interested in repair kits, tyre weld or any other ‘fix’, I just want a spare wheel, so, bearing that in mind, does ANYONE know where I can buy the correct pattern alloy wheel from please? Sometimes the ‘old ways’ are actually the best rather than some cheap and nasty repair system that allegedly saves weight and gets you an extra 3 miles per charge. I don’t care about the extra 3 miles, I want to be able to get home after a puncture by changing the damned wheel. For me, with the extra charges for recovery from one of the providers, I can buy an awful lot of spare wheels. So, anyone know?
I'd also like a spare wheel, I not concerned about matching the others, as it'll get changed back to being a spare as soon as possible.
I bought a spare (space saver) for my Volvo C70 convertible, some years ago, thankfully never needed it.

If you take out the foam insert, a space saver wheel, together with jack and tools, fits into the boot, and screws securely into place. I also carry some ‘Tyreweld’, which I understand can be removed from a tyre, unlike the gunk supplied with the car.

Spot on. The day I picked up my car I went over to the parts counter and ordered a space saver. Amazingly the girl pushed one out, in its box, from behind her desk.
I got home and did exactly as Susanna described above, and it’s been carted about for nearly three years as a stowaway menace.
That was until last week when I had a puncture.
30 minutes to change the wheel in pouring rain wearing the impervious hi- vis building site jacket and an old towel as a mat. The journey home through deeply flooded roads didn’t bother the skinny but tough wee saviour.
I replaced both front tyres next morning as they were well worn anyway.
The space saver now resides, clean, polished and pristine back in its first class, honoured guest under floor cabin and I wouldn’t be without it.

Yes, I can confirm the vw golf 7.5 wheel fits nicely on the essence/Trophy 64 at 5x112 however it is only a 7.5inch rim and narrower tyre rather than the 8inch of ours. The same size 235 tyre as ours will fit ok but I haven't got any vw bolts yet which I can confirm have a slightly different countersink angle. Thanks for the tip Lovemyev.
Important to remember it's an emergency tyre only, reduce your speed and drive limited distance to have your full size flat repaired or replaced. No one I hope thinks this option just allows normal unlimited driving. Where are you storing the wheel?

I bought a space saver for ours,

sounds like rubbish IMO
I wish people would stop falling for weight related nonsense, yes manufacturers want to keep the EV cars overall weight light as it increases the advertised ev range projections etc. But, if the weight of a space saver spare was that critical on overall performance or tyre wear or wheel hubs etc, what is happening when 3 or 4 passengers are being added to the journey? And, even if your rear tyres were wearing out (a little) sooner than they do in a corresponding ICE vehicle, think how much $$$(£££) have been saved in fuel, oils, regular servicing etc when compared to running a ICE vehicle.

I just realised I posted ZS on MG4 thread - apologies and adding MG4 variant too:

Might come useful whilst looking for spare:

I know right! may as well kick all your passengers out if you're worried about weight. They weigh 7-8 times as much as a spare tyre, lol

If you want to save weight then stick with the standard inflator pump and can of repair gunk.
No one sells a weight saver spare wheel with tyre so I carry one of the space saver units.
I’ve had two tyre problems in the last twenty years of driving, both of which resulted in a torn sidewall where the gunk would not have worked.
The space saver sits neatly secured in the wheel well with the jack etc neatly inside it and the boot floor at its standard height.

Tied down in the boot. If the wheel and tyre specs are the same as the factory ones you can swap all four and use them forever if you wanted too, no problem.

Does anyone have a clue where I could buy an MG4 Trophy wheel from, dealer says no ? Can't find a matching wheel pattern anywhere. I really don't want to have to buy a set of five. I WANT a spare wheel, not some useless gunk and a stupid little compressor!
Hi i got a space saver wheel for a vauxhall and it fits perfect fit on my mg3 hybrid 2024, got it from E-Bay hope this helps.

I think the only limiting factor I really the speed, keep below 50 and it should be OK. Mine was / is as good as new after about 30 to 40 miles of use a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks for your swift response, I think I will keep the space saver as a spare for longer journeys. Wouldn't like to be caught out during the evening with no where to take the vehicle and a can of gunk ?

My can of gunk lies forlornly in the garage while the S/S wheel has a permanent free travel pass with me - for recovery services rendered ?
