How much damage?

Oh yes, I see it. An adult buzzard weighs around 1 kilogram, so you'd be looking at 13 joules of energy transfered to the front of your car. I reckon that's enough to crack a palstic bumber which is designed to do just that.

Had one hit me many moons ago . When I got home ,I couldn't figure out why people were pointing at my car and laughing . Upon getting out of the car I saw the reason for the mirth, a large crucified bird embedded in my grill ....the bird wasn't laughing though

It probably couldn't get enough altitude because it had a great big arrow up its jacksie. 😀 Bad luck! I won't bore you with the story of a CBR 600 , Grouse, and 380 quids worth of fairing.
Open a bottle of tipple and have a dram or two , might help you sleep better tonight,

Buzzard "It'll buff out, splat! Oh bugger!"

Did I detect a West Country accent among all the swearing?

Aye!
Originally a Bristolian from April 1967 til August1985, when I left to join The Army.
Been all over since, but now settled in West Wales since 2019. 👍

So pat yourself on the back if you said no damage.
Which surprised me to be fair.

When I did stop to look, I was expecting scratches to the bonnet or the front of the roof due to beak or claw contact.

I mean between 750g and a kilo coming to the car at 60 mph.

Seeing how low the bird was, the aerodynamics must have lifted him up over the bumper/bonnet and into the windscreen.

Let me tell you, it was a hell of a BANG!

My emergency glass breaker, which is attached to the bottom of the sunglasses holder flew off, but that was it.

All happened so quickly.

I saw the bird launch from the other side of the road, but had zero opportunity to do anything.

I had a split second thought about banging on the anchors, but the car following stopped me doing that.

It's not the first thing I've hit/run over in nearly 50 years on the road, but it certainly made the loudest BANG!

RIP The Kamikaze Buzzard.

I was fairly confident about my reply because I've had this happen to me (motorway speed rather than national limit). Apart from blood and guts there wasn't a mark on the screen!

It happens very occasionally when flying and it does make a right clonk, even taking the windshield out is not unheard of.

It certainly wakes you up when flying several tonnes of metal at 200 mph several thousand ft up 😳😱😲

It always leaves me with a feeling of guilt having invaded their space 😢

RIP Buzzard 🙏

I think it also depends on the angle of the strike and the area (of the car, not the buzzard). Head on, hitting the bumper would do more damage than a glancing blow across the bonnet.
