We have a problem with the heater fan on our MG ZS EV (gen 1 with no climate control so fan speed is manually set). On some fan settings, the fan often cuts out. Info from here has helped us work out it's probably the heater control resistor. I booked it into our local MG dealer but since then, the problem has been very intermittent. Some days the fan behaves, and other times, it cuts out every few minutes (unless the fan is on full power). The dealer says if there's no warranty problem found, I'll be charged (around £130+VAT).

I've spoken to them to confirm if the fan doesn't cut out and they can't replicate the problem then I'll be charged. So I'd then have paid a load of money and still have the problem.

I understand the dealer has to account for his time but, in theory, I could book the car in many times, pay hundreds of pounds and still be left with an intermittent problem.

So what do others do in this situation? Do I have to wait until the problem is permanent so I know it will fail every time?

This must apply to all manufacturers and all intermittent problems.

Could you record some video evidence?
Yeah, that would be worth a go. I'd need them to accept it though.
It can't just be me who doesn't want to spend money for someone to tell me they can't find a fault.

I'll see how it goes. If it gets worse so the fan cuts out every time, then I'll take it back. Otherwise, I'll see if they'll accept video evidence of the problem.

My Peugeot Boxer does exactly the same, that has a loose fitting fan relay box which after giving it a tap works perfectly for a while until the jiggles loosen it off again.

The fault should be stored in the onbord computer.
