Got a few questions about the MG ZS EV heating and ventilation system.

  1. I know air conditioning should be used for cooling the car but should you have it on when heating as well? Or just use the heating controls.
  2. Is the PM2.5 filter work on all settings or do you need to have air conditioning on for it to be utilised.
  3. There are two auto settings. There is the auto 'button' and the auto setting on the external, internal and auto button toggle. Are these different and what exactly do they do? On the toggle option how does this determine when air is drawn in from outside or recycled in the cab?
The instructions in the manual are not clear so sorry for newbie questions.

It is good practice to leave the AC on and set it to auto.

This makes sure that moisture is taken out of the air regardless of the temperature you want.

This will stop your car misting up.

It is also better for the AC system in the long term and stops molds and bacteria building up.

It will impact on range and that is something to consider on longer journeys.

Others will of course be along soon to offer a polar opposite position. 🤣

I have noticed an acrid smell on start up sometimes. This could be mould in the air conditioning?

There are two auto options though. The stand alone auto button and the auto option on the external and internal air button.

I use auto on both. 👍

Why not try an AC refresh canister to try and eliminate any odours?

If it were mould, it would not smell acrid and it would be there all the time. Check when is this happening - is it only when you have heating on after some time when it was off and smell comes from the vents? Likely to be a bit of accumulated dust on the heating element that burns off. If the smell is always there, have it checked

Cool thanks. Only briefly at start up so you're probably right. Probably bit of dirt or hair on heating element.

Remember, the climate control in the ZS EV can only cool....this is not a reversible heatpump system, so heating is done solely using a resistive "toaster" heater.

I was told by someone that the car actually only needed a slightly different valve in the climate control to make it possible to reverse it to also heat, but this was omitted for cost reasons.
