I bought a car

My new motor comes with a granny charger which will be fine until it's not.

Should I buy a type2 to type2 for charging elsewhere, I understand slower/cheaper public chargers tend to be untethered?
It also helps to use the correct terms - you didn't use any wrong ones, this is just general info.

On here or talking informally saying fast chargers people generally know what you mean. However if you are trying to explain a problem or perhaps telling a story you need to be accurate as it could affect the solution or send people looking down the wrong track.
Fast 'chargers' are the slower (daft eh!) 7kW-22kW type 2 that we have at home or are at destinations that you leave plugged in for long periods.
Rapid chargers and Ultra rapid are those that use CCS and are 50kW power up to currently 350kW or more.

The slower 'fast' chargers are not chargers at all but just big powerful plug sockets (called EVSE) and the charger is actually in the car which converts the AC electricity to the DC that the car stores and uses.
The Rapid chargers supply DC electricity straight into the battery via some gubbins and bits.
Hence solutions and tips can vary depending on what sort of charger is involved.

Yes, you should not rely solely on granny chargers, have a backup type 2 to type2 charging cable. This article explains granny chargers and their safety concerns hope its helpful for your decision making:)

.. their option might be a bit biased give the business they’re in…

If you’re not worried about speed, generally do little mileage and have a dedicated outlet then the ‘granny’ is totally safe to use…

With the MG4 I am using a good quality waterproof extension reel (€30) unwound. For reassurance, I check the running temperature of the plugs every few days and inspect the pins.

So far, 3 month in, everything seems safe and perfect.

Meanwhile, my neighbour's Ohme runs hot hot hot when charging at 7kW. Hmm.

It’s letting through 3 times the current compared to yours.

But you’re right, if the Ohme gets ‘hot hot hot’ something is wrong, bad contact I assume as the charger is located inside the car
