I hate my MG4!

I have had most of the issues described. Got my car a few months ago. I am overall disappointed although there are some things that I like.

In addition to those mentioned:
  • 3 times I have had sudden breaking/stopping when reversing slowly (to the point where I have to get out to check i haven't hit something!) Safety feature but way too sensitive! Gives me a heart attack!
  • Many times sudden breaking with on coming cars.
  • One time reversing camera didn't come on, it was pitch black and I had to rely on the sensors.
  • Footwell doesn't seem to get very warm and I have cold feet.
  • For ages I wasn't able to connect phone to the car for phone calls (apart form a few random contacts!) I have finally resolved this by having wireless Auto Android and using Hey Google instead of the car's voice activation.
  • I also had issues with linking Sportify and maps (I like to use Wayz) to the car. Again resolved with the wireless Auto Android. Still sometimes doesn't automatically connect to Spotify though.
  • The screen often doesn't go dark at night. I was told to turn off and on the auto lights which does solve it but its a faff and not great for other drivers as lights are briefly off!
  • Windows randomly opening slightly. Now seems to be resolved thanks to someone on here explaining how to re-set them.
  • I agree that no lights in the back of the car is a real pain and a very basic omission. The ones in the front aren't great either. Don't stay on long and not very bright.
  • The USB and C ports are in a really inconvenient place and have to scrabble around to look under the protruding bit (sure it has a proper name!) to plug in. Now I have the Wireless Auto Android this is not such an issue.
I usually keep a car for about 10 years but not sure I will with this one. Its a shame, as it drives really nicely and has some good features. I'm hoping most of the issues can be resolved with updates. I was told one is due shortly.... We will wait and see!!
Hi Newtali. I also was hoping software updates would solve some of the glitches, but unfortunately my local dealership won't do it under warranty. They want £120 to put a USB in for a short while! Hopefully your local dealer will be more reasonable.

SE LR owner here. Really pleased with it but don't use anything with a TLA. I only use waze and android carplay, both of which have been fine and always deliver. Turn demist and a/c on when required, always works real fast. Use tow mode to keep LKA permanently off without having to switch it off everytime I get in the car. Deactivate snoozing sensor and speed limit detector and set regen braking to adaptive everytime I start 'er up.
Have done about 5k since March so very low mileage but I can honestly say every one of those miles has been pleasurable.
I had a Kia Soul ev for 4 years prior to this that I put 48k miles on with not a single issue in all that time, so my expectations were high. Luckily, reading yours and others experiences, I have not been disappointed thus far.

To be honest, £120 is not a lot these days. I'd probably pay it. Seems to me though that it would be hard to verify that all the updates had been applied. So from that point of view I'd be tempted to do it myself, but I do have a BSc, MSc and PhD in computing.

I'd try a different dealer and don't ask for software updates but tell them what's wrong instead. MG won't pay the dealers just for updating the software because the owner asks for it but will if there's a problem.

It didn't charge last night, I wanted to boost it to 100% as I have a few miles to cover this weekend with no end point charging. I set it to 100% on the MG app. It didn't charge, I double checked the Zappi App "Car preventing charging" I checked the car this morning it had set it to long journey mode but had not charged. It is now charging on expensive non overnight electricity.

As Whiplash said about the Hammer Industries drone software in Iron Man 2 "Software S🤬t".
