MG Chargehub Firmware

I'm a complete newbie to posting on online forums (only been a reader and learner from others until now) so please accept my sincere apologies if this post is out of place.

Does any know if the 2.1.0.8 August 2024 firmware update for Charge Hub updates OCPP support from 1.6J to 2.0+ ? The MG webpage only says that it includes "Improved OCPP support).

Thanks.

I should, perhaps, have also said that I'm intending to have my Charge Hub installed but then found out that SA Powernetworks have since 1 July 2024 require that EV chargers to support OCPP 2.0". (The documentation for my Charge Hub says it supports OCPP 1.6J).

I suspect it might only be 1.6J. I looked through the chargers setup page, through the OCPP response messages, and through the debug logs and cannot locate anything that says what version it is.

You could always try [email protected] which is listed on the MG Chargehub support page.

I guess the question is does it really matter? I've got the Chargehub and I'm in SA too, but mine was installed before that was introduced. Not sure about your sparky, but mine wouldnt understand any jargon on the datasheet for the charger except for which wires to connect. SA currently has buck-lies chance of getting any sort of OCPP control of people's chargers in the next 5 years at least; they can't even implement DRM to control peoples aircons.

Edit: Are you sure its OCPP 2.0? This page https://www.energymining.sa.gov.au/...of-Electric-Vehicle-Supply-Equipment-EVSE.pdf says:

An EVSE shall comply with either:
a. Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) 1.6, edition 2 FINAL, 2017-09-28 (or
higher)3
b...
c...
For clarity, both SOAP and JSON versions of OCPP 1.6 are acceptable.

Apparently there was a [tiny] list of approved chargers, but that list has 404'd lol

Thanks for your response. It's very much appreciated. What a coincidence as I had only just found and finished reading that energyminings.sa.gov article before I clicked to read your response. It's definitely very encouraging as I was most worried that my Charge Hub would no longer be able to be installed (in SA).

I also just had a look at the article on the solar quotes website that I thought said the SA power Networks requirement from 1/7/24 was for OCPP V2 but, I either misread it or was dreaming when I read it in early June, or perhaps it's since been amended because it now says "OCPP 1.6 (V2)" which is also mentioned in the table in section 6.2 of the energy mining.sa.gov document.

Yes, that list of approved chargers is a mystery. I recall looking through a list (I think it was on the SA Power Networks website) which was many, many pages long with dozens of chargers listed, but it seems to have disappeared, as you say.

Once again, many thanks.

Since it’s a rebadged StarCharge Aurora, (which is a discontinued model now and specs still list OCPP 1.6J) then I guess it depends on who will maintain the software - the manufacturer or the distributor?

e.g. Apparently Shell also rebadge the Aurora internationally so I imagine they would have the resources to roll out 2.0 if their fleet required it. But I can’t imagine MG would bother.

Thanks for your response to my enquiry. The reason I posed my enquiry was a due to my mistaken understanding that OCPP V2 support was a SA Power Networks requirement for an EV charger to be installed in SA after 30/6/24 (which would therefore make my MG ChargeHub a "brick").
I've since ascertained that OCPP1.6J satisfies SAPN's OCPP version requirement (many thanks, califo) which is a great relief, and I can now go ahead and have my MG charger installed. Consequently, I'm no longer concerned whether the OCCP version on my MG charger can/cannot be updated. Nevertheless, thanks once again, for your response.
