MG iSMART APP

Another person with a dead iSMART app. -2°C here.

Useless if that’s the case - how do I go about defrosting the car remotely if the app doesn’t work?

First 6 months the car (4xpower) and the app were a dream. The car’s still ace but the app is really p***ing me off. Surely it’s a solvable problem or MG would struggle selling the cars in cold countries.

You’d think?!

So many features which should be on the car not just the app and vice versa.

Take for instance if you have a charging schedule on the app. You can’t switch it off directly from the car. So if the app doesn’t work and you want to charge outside of the charge window that is set . You can’t charge and can’t override it from the car.

Unusually I Smart is not working for my cars either (Iphone). I wonder if it is down for everyone? Has anyone got it working?

Hi.
I figured out how this app is working. It is working very stable in my case. Always, when you open the app, the first thing you do is manual update status of the car. Wait until those arrows on top stop rotating and you're ready to go.

Tried mine this morning at 6:30am and freezing and it didn’t work.

Just tried it again and it’s still not working. Just times out. First problems I’ve had with it. It is still -2 outside.

Hi. Over the weekend the iSMART APP appeared to be down. I checked again this morning, the wheel goes round, as the APP tries to communicate with the car. But after 30 seconds it gives up and reports “the request timed out, please try again later”.
The app is very good, especially now, as it allows the AC and heated seat and steering wheel to be remotely switched on.
Has anyone else experienced this.
Many thanks Noel.
Mine not working too, trying to unbind and reset but it doesn’t send the code so I take it it’s their side. Hopefully they fix it soon, missed it this frosty morning.

I have no problems. Maybe it's the mobile network

I'm also affected by what appears to be a current general issue. I cannot connect at all despite using all the usual tricks. It has been stable for months and now I can't use iSmart at all. Interestingly the actuator in the charge door has failed but I will ask a separate question about that.

If other UK users (or other users anywhere) are successfully using iSmart to control AC on an MG4 EV please can you let me know as in that case I might keep trying! It's a pain on a freezing morning just when we need it!

I think you’re onto something here….on reflection I‘ve only had this problem in cold weather
I tend to agree with you but why would cold weather prevent a data transfer between app and car - is the wireless modem freezing?! I love it mainly but nothing would surprise me with this vehicle!🤣😂

If it don’t work when it’s freezing, it pointless, mine been fine till 08.01 this morning. It’s stuck on that update time. Tracker still works tho so cold not effecting signal

Mine was once again the same today. Not working, but once the outside temperature reached 2* in sprang back into action.

The outside temperature definitely has an effect on the vehicle connecting to the app.

I am now convinced that the iSMART App stops working when the outside temperature drops to 2°C or below.

When the temperature goes down, the car is no longer able to connect to the app.

How ironic, when the app is supposed to connect to the vehicle to allow heating. When the temperature rises, the app reconnects.

As previously stated by others, I just get the spinning wheel of fortune, that eventually times out.

Would be great to hear if anyone else finds this problem only happens in the cold.
I have had the issue since about 8:00pm last night when of course the temperature dropped as you suggest and I am not sure it has got back up above freezing all day which might be why not working! I like your logic but as you say, how ironic!

Hi how do you do a manual update status of the car please?

Hi David.
I went out to the car and used the recommended poke and hope process🫢 and now everything seems to be back to normal🤗.
No doubt, after doing this, I will, discover something else that I’ve inadvertently disabled. Owning this car is akin to a voyage of discovery.⛵
Hi Noel, my app is behaving in the same way as yours was….ie not working. Whats Poke and Hope and did it sort yours?

Same as me. I think the App was updated yesterday, maybe that’s affected it

I had the same issue when I had mine two weeks ago. I scouted round the menus and found where the problem is (which is what I think your dealer would have done). From memory it’s something like this:-

1.) From the home screen swipe left and select settings.
2.) Select the Privacy policy option (think it’s the very bottom one)
3.) Make sure you’ve accepted the privacy policy and then enable the Global Data Switch option

My iSmart app connected straight away after this.
