I see a lot of driving a regular route in my future - it's about 100 miles of entirely motorway, but very congested - stop/start traffic, heavy lorries, etc. It can take 2 hours to drive on a good day and 4 hours on a bad day, and that 4 hours is quite stressful. I'm pondering switching my current ancient car to one with driver assistance to make this easier, and considering a used MG EV - at the cheap end of the spectrum, so an early MG5 or perhaps a ZS EV.
I know huge amounts have been written about LKA etc, but I have a more basic question about all the features together... is MG Pilot 'good enough' for motorway driving? I'm mostly interested in lane following and adjusting speed based on traffic, and handling of stop/start traffic (I don't mind overtaking manually). Can I trust it do that without me having to babysit it or crashing me into things?
I don't care about LKA on single carriageway roads etc, auto parking etc. It would be nice if I can turn off LKA for the few miles of single carriageway before and after my motorway, but I can live with it as long as it doesn't kill me.
Another option I'm considering is getting a car that supports OpenPilot - mid 2010s VWs like the Skoda Octavia seem to be the cheapest ones. But could put a bit more towards an EV if MG Pilot is up to it.
