MG ZS EV Facelift - Test drives

Without wanting to be disrespectful, if you want a car to drive like your Leaf, with the same regen and same paddles etc. then perhaps you should consider a new Leaf.
All EVs like all ICE cars although basically using the same technologies will drive differently and have their own quirks. As you said it is us that has to adapt to a different car.
I know what you mean but to clarify; I wasn't looking for a car to drive like my leaf, which doesn't have flappy paddles either, but had hoped it would seem more intuitive having been used to an EV. A new leaf isn't a consideration as the whole point of a new car is to get to 100% usability over the 99.9% usability I have with the current leaf (no tow bar for one). This old dog will have to learn some new tricks as I bit the bullet in the end!

Just got out of my test drive from the MK dealer and I’m very upset. Couldn’t find fault with anything ;)

Had about an hour with it, mixture of main roads, urban areas & twisty bits as directed by me though MK, Woburn, Leighton Buzzard & Bletchley.

Bloody quick even in Normal Mode, when (not if!) I buy one I’m going to have be very careful not to hoon about in “Sport”.

Great visibility, was very comfy even with playing with the seats for only a minute. Was surprised how roomy it was, even for a 6ft fat lad there was still a lot of room in the back.

Adaptive Cruise is frankly witchcraft, didn’t encounter any odd braking or acceleration on any road type. Even slowing the car down before a severe bend or going under a bridge, was very impressed.

Only found two things I wasn’t 100% on- the reversing camera display is straight out of a 2005 phone & I need a KERS 2.5 as 3 was too much & 2 wasn’t enough (albeit this is probably more down to adapting to the car).

Whilst the government EV incentives changing is a pain, subject to SWMBO approval I am putting an order in.

Try contacting Sam Luscombe - he may have some pre ordered Gen 2 ZS available if you're quick
