MG4 Lane keep assist

It’s not as bad as some people say
Experience with the operation of LKA is highly variable.

Some have little issue with it but others suffer considerable overreach by the LKA system. Mine is a bit random, mostly just annoying but when it tries to pull me over the centreline towards oncoming traffic, then something ain't right. It happens on certain sections/types of road.

I have a couple of spots where it happens at times. Not every time but when it does it can be a brown trouser moment. There is a crest on Waterfall Way that is a prime spot for it just as you go over the crest but it's not confined to that spot. I travel the road often.

Disabling the LKA is an annoying multistep process when it needs to be a one button press operation, and as I have discovered it occasionally resets itself and turns back on, like it did again on Saturday morning on my drive down the mountain from Dorrigo to Bellingen.

My Essence 64 has a build date of June 2023, purchased September 2023.

On old firmware lka would reset itself when playing with the lights. Could that be the cause it was turned back on?

also annoying when "one pedal" mode have to go through menus every time after stops. and if switched to sport mode it goes off again. i use star button to toggle regen mode, easily it could be option there but now it only toggles through 1,2,3,A

I've no idea. I was driving in the daytime, lights are on auto.

But I've had another thought - on that road there are some roadworks with temporary traffic lights as the road is single lane for some distance. Perhaps while I was waiting at the red light (it's a long stop of several minutes) I put it in park and that resets it? I don't recall whether I did or did not do that but it might be an explanation.

I've found with mine if I gently drift across the white line, as in overtaking in good time on a dual carriage way, the LKA kicks in. But if I make a definite turn of the steering wheel, even just a degree, it doesn't.

Not sure if it also happens with auto. But the video shows it is at least caused using the handle.
You could try whether changing the light modes also changes the lane assist. Auto can be tested as well by covering the sensor on the dash.
As far as I know, the reset only happens if you shut down the car. If set to P and staying in the car is not the same.

Mine certainly got better (less intrusive tugging at the wheel) after some updates at first service / to fix my CCU problem. But I don't know for sure because I have it turned off 99% of the time unless I forget. I don't like such systems anyway. But I am pretty sure there are updates that makes it play nicer, if not as well as some competitors.

What side of the road do they drive on, in China?

FWIW, I have no issues with LKA, I have never switched it off, and get the occasional twitch from the wheel, but it's completely predictable.

WIsh people would stop calling it 'Kill' Assist...

But aren't most of these systems from Bosch in Germany?

Maybe it's German firmware, but Chinese hardware (i.e. SAIC manufacture the ECU that the firmware runs on) and "tuned" or "adapted" to MG vehicles by SAIC. If so, perhaps these problems largely stem from each company not being fully aware of what the other is doing. Wild speculation on my part.

I am same as u no problem.

I had mine in for a service earlier in the week. The service manager told me that there is an update on its way to create a shortcut or permant button on the home screen to disable lane keep assist, rather than going through the menus.
It would not surprise me if he meant R59.

Does anyone have the same problem as I do with Lane Keep Assist I have to turn mine off before I set off it tries to pull my car quiet violently either the centre line or near side line I can not just hold the steering wheel gently
Yes. Mine does too. I read recently that a Car Magazine test driver experienced it too and said it requires an urgent update to solve the problem which, in his opinion, was potentially lethal, and I definitely agree. But, of course, when I mentioned it to my main MG franchise dealer, they naturally hadn't heard of the problem ! I know my 'consumer rights' and shall be taking this higher up on Monday. Perhaps we should all do the same and then may be they'll get off their backsides and sort it.

That would be a BIG plus.
And a definite MUST as afar as 'Road Safety' is concerned. But what they really need to do, to be absolutely safe on the road, is to solve the cause of the problem not leave it up to the driver to remember to cancel it, that's not a remedy but a cover up and still a potential danger remaining.

Updating this with latest chat with my dealer:

There has been a little movement on this concern with MG since we last spoke.

MG have released a communication in response to claims surrounding potentially dangerous driving characteristics of the ADAS Lane Keep Assist system and advise that they are finalising a software enhancement for customer's which will be approved by the relevant authorities MG have been cooperating with Closey. Customers will be contacted shortly by MG, This upgrade has not been classed as a safety related upgrade and is designed to improve the driver experience.

So it's a waiting game at the moment. In the meantime, I have discovered the following behaviour on my car:
  1. The LKA settings do not appear when unlocking and getting into the car.
  2. The LKA settings appear, and default to 'enabled', when the car is placed in a ready state.
  3. If LKA is 'disabled' when the car is in a READY state, the setting will save for the rest of the journey.
  4. If the parking brake is applied the LKA will revert to 'enabled' when the car is placed in a READY state, as in steps 1 and 2.
Really, my main issue with this is the lack of transparency around the settings, and the inconsistent behaviour of the settings. The lack of saving is annoying too.

I'd argue that the behaviour you describe of the settings are the very definition of consistent ... every time the car is in a position where the driver may change then the settings revert to LKA default on.
