MG4 likes and dislikes We agree

Have you got a 3 phase cable. Check L2 and L3 are present in cable. To get 11kw you need a 7 pin 3 phase cable.
Assuming you have a lr/ trophy with 61.7kw usable 1% is low in 14 minutes, should be nearer 1.6% but it depends on what % you started at. Above 80% slows down input....
This is on the cable

A thing I don't like is the near mystery of the Trophy's 360 camera. No real youtube videos showing 5 minutes of it in operation, using the different views etc. For me it's a stud feature, but seems to be lost on most reviewers as they hardly (never) focus on it.
Just give us a few minutes on that in one review, instead of showing me how many cupholders it got, finger nails over any 'scratch' plastics, or how 'carplay' works and going on and on and on about 'range'

Ok so this thread has not been touched in around a month now well I have found I few more things to like and dislike.
So
Charge port on the rear quarter so having to reverse most of the time to a charger much sooner have it at the front like the ZS or the MG5 far easier especially in the dark also when charging at night the lights around the plug no need for that lot for me something much smaller would have done.

Headlights being on all the time even in bright daylight not necessary in my view.
Getting use to the car more now but LKA forget that.

Buttons on the steering wheel to many for me can’t remember what does what most of the time having to remember to hit the star button to control the HVAC temp or hit the star button again to change the radio stations or volume the cruise control give me the lever back like the 5 or Zs.

Idea of have no stop/start button doesn’t work for me also never was happy with that idea but there is also a tale to be told about that later as you will read I’m sure.

Wife's car and she likes it so I think that’s the main thing.
I love the drive and feel of the car on the road it’s very quick but got a wake up call the other day while I was waiting at some lights when a Tesla model Y drew up along side of me and when the lights change I stuck with him for around 100 meters and then there was dust all around me as he left us for dead LOL.
Maybe when MG bring us the AWD car might be in with a chance if I can afford one.

Completely agree about charge port position, love our MG ZS EV MK1 with its grill mounted charge port.

How our drive is positioned I have to awkwardly pull forward into the drive if I'm first home and last out in the morning to charge so the flap isn't by the footpath side incase someone decides to relieve my MG4 of its charge port door or just snap it for sh*ts and giggles.

Also have on a couple of of occasions pulled into charging bays the wrong way round but that's just me being in ZS autopilot ?

My biggest complaint with our MG4 so far is lack of strong regen - there are 3 regen modes, but they're basically extremely soft, very soft and soft - there's no strong! One of the great advantages of an EV is one-pedal driving (eg leaf, Tesla) but even with three modes to choose from, the MG4 squanders this advantage. It would be wonderful to see a software update to increase the regen strengh for at least mode 3.
BTW - does anyone actually use regen 1?

Might be on my own here but I much prefer the charging port being on the rear on the MG4. Our mk1 ZS's being on the front was a pain, it's much easier to reverse into a parking space especially with the cameras. Also love not having to crouch down to see the charging port which was hidden by the flap on the ZS and finally love not having to mess around with the bung when home charging.

Another advantage of the side/rear charge port is that it stays much cleaner, so you don't need the fiddly plastic cap over the connector. Our old ZS EV we had for 3 years, and my current Kia e-Niro both have/had front charging ports and they needed the additional rubber/plastic cover. Cars with a side port don't need this.

Yet another advantage of the charge port being on the nearside rear corner is that it is in the same location as a Tesla.
This means that using the few Superchargers that are open to all EVs is easy. (Superchargers have really short cables).

Have done a little over 2000 miles in our SE SR, and over Christmas completed our first long distance journey (Norfolk to South Wales and back again). So here's my tuppence:

I love driving the MG4. I'm far less energetic with my driving than I was twenty years ago with my Metro, but the MG will happily do both enthusiastic and relaxed driving.

Plenty of space in the boot and the cabin.
The EV experience.

The range. Stopped twice on the way down to Wales, once on the way back up. Mainly because I needed to arrive in Wales with charge. Both journeys were very smooth. Had a five minute wait at Rugby for an available charger on Christmas Eve. But by the time we'd eaten, drunk and peed the car was ready. We've absolutely no need for more range than we've got.

Things which could improve: (mostly small niggles)
(Car) Scheduled charging hours wrong frequently. I think I've worked out the process now, but it didn't be as temperamental as it is.

The speed recognition is wrong more often than it's right and is just a distraction.

I'd like somewhere for my flask!

And the big one, I'm sorry but the seats are poor. My wife is constantly travel sick because of the aggressive head restraint and whilst I'm pretty tolerant, I'm starting to resent my seat a little. Before anyone talks about safety over comfort, the regulations are obviously designed by and for people who aren't 5 ft 6 (which BTW is average size for a woman so not crazily short). It pushes my other half head forward in a way no-one would like. TBF, this is a common issue. But it's the one I need to fix for us to be happy with the car.

Oh, and she doesn't like the wide 'step' to disembark.

Was seriously considering the awd, hopefully the teething problems are sorted prior to its release.
The big thing for me is how the dual motors and all that power will affect the range, after it was confirmed it is only getting the same battery as the trophy and not the 77kwh extended one

If other EVs are anything to go by, adding an AWD system typically reduces range by around 10%, so would expect the AWD MG4 with the 61kWh battery to have a stated range of around 250 miles, but we know that things like spoilers can make a difference and that real range is a function of weather, actual speed and driving style.

One would hope that MG take the opportunity to fix or improve upon some of the less liked 'features' of the current model when the AWD is released. That might include, better seats, the addition of paddles or physical buttons to control drive mode and regen level, and perhaps better quality trim to replace the 'piano black' and more scratchy plastics.

There are a few threads on the awd with a variety of images in them, it definitely has uprated seats, brakes, alloys and in some appears to have a panoramic roof.
Not sure about software etc, a German poster on the podcast claimed it would be just under £40k just need to wait and see

I'm one of those odd balls who put their car in the garage. I park right up to some shelving at the end of my garage so a bonnet mounted charge port doesn't work for me. I rejected a ZS EV because of this. Side charging's the easy to go for me.

Biggest pet hate for my wife is the speed sign recognition. Our old ZS EV didn't understand the concept of the UK National speed limit sign, and assumed it was 60mph all the time. So dual carridgeway/motorway driving was annoying as the car was always flagging over-speed. After 3 years and a new ground-up EV design, the MG4 STILL has this bug. The sat-nav knows the correct speed limit, and displays it on the sat-nav screen, but the driving display and the speed limit warning system still gets it wrong. Every other car I've driven with speed limit monitoring combines info from the sat-nav and sign recognition cameras to give the correct reading (including my modest Kia e-Niro) but the MG is still getting it wrong. The info exists in the car to correct this (sat-nav feed) so please MG, get this fixed!!
It also has the even more annoying behaviour of losing the speed limit value when turning a corner! - this is nuts, and no other car I know does this. For goodness sake, keep the current speed limit 'till you see a sign with a new limit - it's not rocket science and could be very easily fixed in the software!

What do owners think of the surround camera display coming on at low speed when you indicate? Is this a good feature?

Difficult to know once the novelties worn off but until you get used to the car it should prevent damage to the wheels from cutting the corner.
It should also stop side-swiping an unseen post surround when manoeuvring... £500 voice of experience ?

Infotainment screen is awful. It should be customisable, in that I do not need to see the weather forecast. Also the sensitivity of the buttons demands you concentrate very much on where you're pressing. Polestar2 is light years better.
And may I say Light Years more expensive. Well over £40k according to a friend who has ordered one and is now having second thoughts.

Had a shot of driving a polestar, nice car really well put together but felt like a tank (literally) for a pretty big car I didn't find it that spacious and I'm sure it's about 2.2 tonnes as well so was set up a bit firm, must be to cope with the weight.
Was the first time I'd seen the Google infotainment system , as someone has said in here on another thread, I don't know why all manufacturers don't go with that, instead of trying to do their own. Can only assume it's a cost saving.

I too have tried the polestar. I liked it but no wow factor I’m afraid for the money. The Google software is the market leader at the moment I think, running closely with Tesla/Google.
