MG4, not a good car.

Is there a way to check if the new LKA has been loaded? I got my car updated yesterday and I want to check it. my usual routes do not trigger the LKA.

My car is going in tomorrow for the much-delayed infotainment update. At the time it was arranged, back in July, I asked if they would do the LKA update too if it was available by then. It wasn't on the job sheet when they asked me to pre-book it in earlier today, so I asked about it.

What's the betting they don't do it?

Caliban is currently in the dealer's, and I said, if it's available please do it, because I don't want to have to come back again. They're pretty dozy though, so who knows. Current plan is to shake the dust of their showroom off my feet after this and never return.

I'm currently in a Kia Soul, and although it drives OK it doesn't have the spirit of the MG4. It's also the ugliest car in creation. I feel I should put a tarpaulin over it, sitting on my drive. And the boot is tiny. I may be wrong, but I can't imagine how sleeping in that thing would be a viable proposition.

If it isn't, and mine isn't done today, then that will be my chance to make the acquaintance of Central Garage, Galashiels, and gauge whether I wish to favour them with my custom from now on.

They still have the car. Nothing appears to be going wrong, it's just that they had the R33 update, the undertray and the charging port lights to deal with, and they might actually do the new LKA update while they're at it. Current plan is I get it back lunchtime tomorrow. (And head north with my camping gear.)

Safe journey. Looks good over on the west. Daughter’s on Harris or further south by now. Stunning pictures she’s sending.

Right here right now it's cold and wet and horrible. I can't believe what I'm seeing on the weather forecast.

Hope to have the car by one tomorrow. I'll have to load the kit into the courtesy car and swap over when I get there. I also have a music lesson in the morning so the holdall of flute, music and various bits and bobs will also have to come. They said they'd try to charge the car since I couldn't do it tonight, (she said maybe if it's finished by eleven we can put it on the charger, which isn't going to be enough, but it's the thought that counts. If I can't get to the Fort William supercharger on what I have, I'll just have to give CPS a try. I've got the courtesy car plugged into my Zappi to reciprocate.

I'm sitting here in the dealership hoping that THIS time they will install R33, having just had a damn good vent about the unfriendly, unhelpful and downright obstructive attitude of some of their staff. I told them that I really really love my car, and if they've got a basically satisfied customer wound up the way they've got me wound up, pity help customers who actually have a serious complaint.

Please ignore unfriendly replies like that. While most people are happy with their cars, even the happy bunnies have the occasional gripe, and it's undeniable that some people have had significant problems and there are some absolute lemons about. Whether this is more common with MGs than with other brands I don't know.

I hope we're about supporting people who are experiencing problems and helping them find solutions, not accusing new members of being trolls after one post.
As many have said, it's an good/excellent car, but limited software updates & MG UK / Dealers let it down. That's a great shame and it needs to change!

No doubt the MG Xpower (2023) and MG4 (2024) are much better cars having fixed prior faults such as water ingress etc. Many issues can also be fixed with software updates, which are well known about, and must get better by proper communication from MG China -> MG UK and a desire to update/communication with dealers about what changes are associated with each update. We can only hope this improves as otherwise it lets the brand down.

I had an interesting conversation this morning. The receptionist girl started on a script about not having parts if the charging light issue needed them. I said that I thought it was highly unlikely it would need parts, because it was a known issue which could be fixed, at least temporarily, by doing something with a particular fuse, or some people had had it permanently fixed with a software update. An older woman at the next desk started lecturing me about how nothing that was said on a forum was any of their business.

I wish I'd said, if you guys made a habit of reading the forum, just lurking, you'd learn a lot that you ought to know if you cared about customer service - for all of your customers. There are a lot of issues that people on the forum seem to know a hell of a lot more about than most dealers.

This applies to dealers of other brands as well. I was running Toyotas for more than 30 years. The last time I wanted my noisy AC repaired but I was told it was 'old age' (car was 10 years old). I knew from a forum that is was caused by a loose connection. But the mechanic denied that it could be the cause. So I sent the pictures from the forum to the manager of the dealership. One call later and they fixed it.
