MG4 SE SR
Just had my first service on MG4 SE SR MY23 and mentioned the usual issues regarding phantom braking and lane keep assist. When I got my bill it stated software to the BMS had been updated, I had checked this before taking it in and it showed as R21 on looking again after the service it is still the same R21 and there does not appear to be any improvement. Can anybody give me some advice on this before I contact the dealer to find out why the update does not appear to have been carried out.

1100R21 is the Infotainment version ... the BMS (Battery Management System) is other software that you can't easily find the version for.

However updates to BMS would not in any way help regards the issues you reported ... BCM (Body Control Module) maybe. And maybe some other module updates. But not BMS.

Updates to the Infotainment would only be done if you reported things like Bluetooth pairing issues. And/or reported the lack of external temperature indication as a safety issue. (1100R33 brings this back).

Thanks for your fast response and sorry I did mean to say BCM not BMS. So there is no way to determine if this update has been applied other than it fixing the problems?

Did your receipt make any mention of update references? At my first service last year they installed various updates, the main one being SCUK001. SC means Service Campaign, so it's a mandatory update but only required to be done when the car is presented for service. This update also amended the ACC performance, meaning the car no longer slows down in gentle bends, and the target speed adjusts ±1mph per tap rather than 5mph.

You can find all the details of the updates in my SE SR 1100R33 thread.

Thanks again for your reply the dealer loaned me an MG 3 which I drove approximately 20 miles on various roads. This did not miss a beat regarding lane keep assist in fact looking at the lane edges display on the car it seemed to be able to see much more than on the MG4. Maybe the reason they cannot get the MG4 sorted is a combination of hardware and software and without the hardware it will never be as good.

That is the update that will come eventually to the MG4 that people are talking about in other threads.

Unfortunately there is no detail about the software update other than it has been applied to the BCM, they stated all settings have been lowered for lane assist, tested and all driving smoothly. Next time I'm out in the car I will check the cruise control to see if it increments one mph with a short tap. If it doesn't I guess I should be asking them to install SCUK001?

I would at least be asking them if they have installed it. After all it is a service campaign item and your car was in for a service.

If you continue to have problems, is there another MG dealer in reasonable distance?

Having a dealer that will work with you is not common but a real game-changer for how you live with your car - I have a good relationship with my dealer's service manager and dealer principal, so my journey has been relatively smooth.

Thanks for your advice I will contact them unfortunately most dealers are a fair distance from me so not much choice.
