MG4 Software Update Thread

Same model , but in France , should not make a difference. Built May 2023 and on R21 from new. Newer version is R33 Which only has a few extra features over R21 , so I've not bothered. I stand to be corrected but I believe the recall was for the door locking problem and not part of the infotainment software . R33 and R21 are much better than R11 , if you find issues with it , then report it and it should be changed, they will be reluctant if you don't have issues and just want it changing as a update. Never having R11 I don't know it that well but others will give advice.

Not sure if anybody else has a SE Long range in the UK and can give any input on this, I went in for a recall for a software update, but went in with R11 software and came out still on R11 with no changes to the software at all, I was told by the contact centre that there is a newer software version available which should have been done as part of the recall, however the dealer are adamant the recall was done and R11 is in fact the most up to date software version for the SE long range?

Not sure who is correct here as I'm constantly being given different answers, thanks in advance
This is only the infotainment system version number. I’m sure the updates were applied to the other modules as required. Unfortunately updating infotainment does not seem to be done unless you report issues with the current firmware.

I was told the recall was for multiple things on the infotainment system including the Adaptive cruise control, Lane keeping assist and a few other things, which I assumed meant going onto the newer software version, what doesn't help is that on the MG database head office keep saying they haven't registered doing the recall so it still shows my car is outstanding!!

The R21 and R33 version numbers help a lot though, I'll mention both of these when I take the car back in and see what they have to say, thankyou!

Recently had my Luxury/Trophy phase one in at 1 year service (may 30th).
It went in with R44 and some other updates from last fall (mostly some bether lane assist, infotainment and lock in updates and so ones).

Came out with R46 (ok I guess, mostly a bluethoot fix) but more importently with updated acc mudule (halleluja).

Now it got one kmt cruise speed adjusment (5kmt when holding or oposite from before), and no to almost none it seem slow down in the curves so far (as I use it). For me the car is now what it should have been like when delivered and it's amazing how so little upgrades can make a such a big difference im dayly life.

The auto light and lane assist is also updated, lights I can not test this time of year and with the lane assist the jury is stil out.

@Msrtv, you must separate the infotainment versions from the car control functionality. You received SC001UK which updated some car modules - eg to give better ACC control. That did not need an info system update as that module only displays data not controls it. This you did not get an info update as the Service Campaign did not require it and the dealer would not be paid to install it or fix it if the installation goes wrong. Some dealers do it for customer relations. As had been said before you must complain about info things eg Bluetooth, heating to to force the dealer to apply to MG for permission to upgrade.

Make them do R33, that has a lot of improvements. I don't know what advantage R21 has, and you lose the external temperature display.

R11? Are you sure? Really? 1100R11? I didn't think that existed (in the UK). When I first got my car over 18 months ago it came with 1100R13.

I bought it used, it is an early 2023 model (can't remember exactly when) but yeah just double checked, it is on R11, unsure if maybe there was some sort of issue so the previous owner had it put back onto an old software version, but this makes me even more concerned about the fact that the dealership claim R11 is the most recent version if I am one of the very few to be on it, out of curiosity are you still on R13 or on a newer version now?

There are certainly improvements to the infotainment in more recent versions.

That said, the more important updates are the car module updates where we can't see the version numbers.
Gotcha, that makes sense from what a lot of people have been saying, I was just told by the main contact centre that part of the recall was an update to the infotainment system, stupidly I didn't ask for any version numbers etc, as I had asked about something I'd seen other MG4's have which is on the pull down quick screen being able to turn off lane keep assist with a button on there instead of having to go through the menus and they said this was part of the update, they obviously just assumed without actually knowing exactly what was being done.

Going to contact MG directly and say about issues with the current infotainment, the system takes easily more than 30 seconds to a minute to load each time and android auto randomly cuts out mid drive regularly, so hopefully this will push them to update everything else for me

I have just had my Trophy in for its first year service. I asked that the dealership (Parks in Irvine) ensure all software was up to date and at the latest version as this was the first time my car had been back to the dealer from new (March 2023). When I picked the car up, I was told there were no updates and none needed which seemed curious as the car is just over 13 months old and I would have expected at least some updates. The dealership muttered something about Chinese Servers not working that seemed nonsensical.

I keep seeing mentions on this forum of various software versions, how do I check which versions my car is at and can anyone advise what the consensus view is on what the latest versions are.

Thanks.

You should have had SC001UK which you can check if your ACC toggle changes speed in 1mph increments for a short movement rather than the 5mph that was likely to be the case when you got the car. Certainly that was the case for my April 2023 Trophy.

Hi, everyone.
Are these software versions the same between different models and countries?
I'm based in Portugal and I'm picking up a new MG4 Standard (51kWh, basic equipment) next week.
Should I call in and demand the dealer to update the software to the latest version? Should I mention R59?
Thanks in advance.

Don't mention R59, as that's only for the Trophy/Luxury. (1300R59)

In the UK the latest for the SE/Standard is 1100R33 ... I don't recall if that's been released in the EU.

1yr service this week (Trophy) asked if there was anything to improve LKA, Bluetooth, ACC. Applied all updates available, so now have the 1mph increments, no slow down on corners, drag down for LKA etc. Also on R59 - has anyone else on R59 noticed that screen seems a lot more responsive? As in significantly improved, no more needing to hit the exact spot, wait for things to happen…
Just picked mine (Luxury/Trophy) here in Finland from 1st service. ACC updated 5km -> 1km jumps, but No R59 so no quick ELK Off Button ?
