MG4 Software Update Thread

I remember it, but how or where do I enter the Google DNS? In my car, router, smartphone?
In your smartphone, edit the IP address to manual as in the attachment

I also meant to add that I was told by the service person on the phone that 5mph increments on the ACC was “just how it is”, yet magically it now is doing 1mph increments.

I completely forgot to ask about data usage. Dangit.
Mine does 5 mph increments - I prefer that

Hi, new MG4 Trophy owner here. Very pleased with my car so far after a week. Only disappointment was finding software seems to b R40. I have read this thread, and I’m getting confused (not hard these days)!

Please can somebody advise what the latest software is. Do I need to ask for other modules to be updated? Will this all be done under warranty by main dealer?
Thanks in advance.

R59 (there was an R46 but R59 has superseded it). It seems to usually happen in response to a specific issue rather than just to keep you up to date. This thread should have all the info you need.

As has been said before if everything works for you don't rush to get the software updated. Your dealer could charge you for updating the software if there's nothing wrong. If R40 works for you then don't rush to get R59 as I believe a newer version is coming out and you'll be visiting the dealer more than once.

I'm still seriously thinking about trying the UK R33 on my car over the Aussie R05.
All my research so far has shown it should work. Once I've got myself a known good base image, I can start trying to customise it and add some of my own apps.

The final check was realising that the R05 infotainment unit still reports itself as a EUUK version in the logs. Only the Tbox is Australia specific.
I guess that makes sense since it is responsible for talking to the 4g networks and such.

So for better or worse, I tried it.

So far so good. The install worked and i'm now showing as on R33.
Everything seems to be functioning except for the reverse camera. I get the lines and the radar with the distance, but the camera image stays black. Something to look at.

Other than that, Radio, DAB, Carplay, all the basics, etc all seem to be working fine.
I've now got the non-fullscreen version of Carplay with the MG bar across the top. The pull down menu now has the shortcut to turn off LKA that wasn't there before.

Which version do I need to get ACC that doesn't slow excessively on bends? I am on R40. Is it any later version?

That's got nothing to do with these infotainment software versions.

It's handled by the various other modules in the car. The dealer service people update those through their SIPS software as part of the fixes for lane keeping and emergency braking updates.

That's possibly because we don't have the reverse camera on the SE in the UK ... I'm not even sure if the EU variants of the SE have one. So maybe the codebase doesn't include for it. ?‍♂️

Oh crap, I didn't think of that!

Thanks, that explains it. I've been banging my head against the wall trying to figure out why it's not even trying to open it.

Guess it's time to start looking at the Trophy code to figure out what turns it on!

edit: Thanks again, that put me on the right track. The SE code does have the camera function, but comparing it to the trophy I think I can see how it isn't turned on.

Next step is to figure out how to modify the firmware files and then flash a custom version with those files fixed.

Can't be that hard, people have been doing it with phones for years now, right??
