MG4 Software Update Thread

Took my car in the other day for the oil breather and various niggles (Bluetooth dropping, Bluetooth key not starting car, charging level on iSmart changes itself from 80% to 70 or 100%, windows dropping).
Dealer said they had reconfigured some software. I’m still on R33. They may have fiddled with the software but they didn’t actually apply the updates! I only found out by accident when I went into settings to look for updates and it said I needed to restart the infotainment system to apply the latest updates. Moral of the story is to restart your infotainment system if it has been into the dealers.

Many updates are for car modules, not the infotainment system, so they may well have done updates to those even if you are still on R33. Unfortunately there is no way to tell what other module versions you have.

Yes, that’s right. The point I was trying to make is that they did not properly finish whatever updates they did as I found out by accident that the infotainment system needed to be restarted to apply updates.

?? I took mine in last week for them to fix it and it still doesn’t work. Meant to have phoned me back after raising a case with MG UK but haven’t heard anything. I’ll have to chase them today.

If everything works on your car I personally would not have it updated. Mine had R24 when I went to collect it but it was updated to R33 before I left the dealership. I have 2 minor issues. Bluetooth loses pairing and the sat nav can freeze. I do wonder if it would have been better if it had stayed at R24.

Still got r24 which does have Bluetooth pairing loses and sat nav freezing so whatever they have changed this isn’t it.

Buon giorno from Germany! There is a specific update for the LKA. Customers from Germany were sent an email to visit their dealers. Of course it is free of charge and takes less than 20 minutes. It's a big improvement!

You can't see the LKA update on your infotainment screen. Those versions refer to the operating system.

R08 is very old. I got my SE (Standard Range) late November 2022 and it came with R13. (Some people now have R16, although that seems to lose the outside temperature indication).

I don't know how things work in Italy, but there was a recall in the UK to fix a potential "locking in" problem, plus there was another mandatory update to soften LKA. These are warranty issues so are carried out free of charge at any MG dealership. (I think the LKA update might also need an Infotainment update). Maybe try another dealership if possible?

Out picking the kids up earlier and tried to connect phone to play Bluetooth music, but phone wouldn’t connect so I removed it and tried to re-add it but I couldn’t get it to work at all.

It’s going in on Friday for the LKA update (hopefully, as a conversation I had today with servicing wasn’t promising despite an email conversation I had with the sales guy last week who said it was missing updates) so I’ll mention it again then. It has got R30 on it so hopefully I’ll be able to get them to update that too.

R30 vs R33 doesn't do anything as regards Bluetooth as far as I know ... it needs an update to the Communications Module (I think) firmware to improve that.

You can't see the LKA update in any menu. But you will notice the difference. ?

This is a free update, I don't think Italy differs from any other country. Maybe your dealer is a bit of a coglione! ?

Hi All, I have had constant bluetooth pairing issues with my 7 week old Trophy.
I got the below from my helpful dealer which sounds promising...

"I have spoken to our workshop and they said they do now have a software update for the Trophy model for bluetooth issues."
