MG4 Software Update Thread

I am new to this topic. Could one explain difference R33 R40 software versions.
As i have seen that all car can not update to r40 are there any technical difference between them?

If i buy a new car how do i know i wasn't sold old stock shyte?

Was there some model technical refresh since 2022?

Some of us have been told that 2022 cars can't have R40, but that may be just dealership lies.

This thread lists the 2022➡️2023 changes that we know of.

R33/R40 relates to the central display screen functions and layout. I doubt very much whether that, on its own will facilitate one pedal driving. At best, it will probably only be an ‘enabler’, adding an on/off switch. By all accounts, it sounds as though the various modules’ firmware are interdependent and updates are prone to error ?

MG might somehow manage to set the one pedal drive mode to the brake pedal by mistake the way their software team seem to be working…

Not sure how software would reconcile one pedal driving with the existing "creep" function. They're almost orthogonal to each other.
if(mode == one_pedal) {
//use accelarator map for one pedal driving
} else {
// use accelerator map where no throttle means some accelerator
}

More complicated than this of course, but that's the gist of it. One pedal mode would be a separate mode where there is no creep.

Probably next week or the week after.

If you watch Bjorn Nyland's recent drives of the MG4, you can see that R40 seems to bring in a complete UI (user interface) change. The whole thing looks different.

The entire UI could do with an overhaul. The home screen in particular could be revamped and made more useful without compromising on the info it shows.

I keep getting a missed call from my dealer telling me I need to go in for a recall (not had any updates since I got the car in December) - but I keep putting it off in case some more useful software arrives before I go in :D

It's probably the locked in update to stop the car locking you and your passengers in and the only way out is through the tailgate. Oh! and it sounds the horn when it does it to make sure everyone watches you crawl out ?

Just for anecdotal reasons, if anyone is tracking, my new car (22nd June delivery) went in yesterday to have the steering wheel straightened up. Whilst in there, they updated the infotainment from R30 to R33 which they told me was the latest version.

Interestingly, my Android phone now prompt for bluetooth pairing each time. It didn't do that once on R30.

Welcome to the dodgy bluetooth and crap software :)
It is a bit naff really for something so basic that's been in cars for 20 years!

I came from a 2022 Dacia Sandero Stepway. Basic yes, but android auto and bluetooth was faultless. And wireless!

Hopefully further updates come our way to fix these things.

Thats the part thats really frustrating. Even the other stuff like LKA, emergency braking. It's fairly old tech now. It's like they have gone to the bargain basement supplier for it. Our other 7 year old car (which was 6 years into the model) works better than the MG

R33 will not cure your freezing sat nav , it still does that , also Bluetooth pairing is not stable, works for days then constantly unpairs then works for days again. So nowhere near right.
Where do you find the software versions? I can see a number ending R24 on my system screen.

I took my MG4 in for its first service today, they updated the software and since then it has been unable to connect to any charging station that requires connection confirmation. So that’s all fast chargers off the cards. I have taken it back and been given the demo car until they can sort it. Has anyone else had this issue?
