MG4 Software Update Thread

I have confidence that MG will release a glitch free updates

Talked to the dealer yesterday and he was just finished a meeting with MG and he told me that the R40 will not retrofit to the older R33 MG4's .... I'll hope this is not the final answer ! Could someone confirm this please ? I also saw that the new 2023 will get delivered with the R33 software so it would be possible to retrofit the new R40 software normally.

I’ve heard something similar on a French site that the Phase 1 models won’t work with the new software, which is bad in my opinion and my 2 week old car is obsolete. Maybe that’s the difference between a company from china and the rest of the industry.

If R33 isn’t suitable for the old ones they will certainly need to work on a R36 as the number of bugs are unreal

VW have done the same claiming that the new V4 software won’t work on the older ID3 (or it may have been the 4)

This is where Tesla really stands above the rest in its software. SAIC is saying the MG can’t be updated due to some minor hardware changes thanks to one pedal braking. The model 3 has numerous hardware changes since 2018 and is still being supported.

I can understand that one pedal braking might not be availalable to retrofit but R40 surely refers to the infotainment software and has nothing to do with one pedal braking.

Yep I get that with the one pedal braking, but i see EV as a digital product in the same way as an iPhone, something through software which can be improved over time as it becomes more mature. I think it was polestar who even increase their cars performance and range. If it is true and phase 1 cars get nothing we are just the beta tester and the very definition of planned obsolescence with no support on a brand-new product after nine months

Well if this is true then at least there'll be no need to use MG for service, which will save money. The updates were the only thing keeping me doing that.

But I don't think it is proven yet - let's wait and see. Maybe R40 can't be retrofitted but future updates will be. We'll see.

I can live with things exactly as they are today, never had a car that did get updates before, so I am at peace with this either way.

I wouldn’t be overly reliant on what a dealer has said. They don’t always get things right. Time will tell. My gut feeling is that there is no way they will drop software development for the first models just yet. It’s way too early to do that

The app was recently updated to ver 1.1.2. I've no idea what was changed but they didn't take the opportunity to correct "Please insert the Charing Plug"

Had my SE SR since November and will be due the 15000 mile service in July. I will be telling them NOT to update anything as I'm happy with it, especially the fact that the LKA stays off permanently!
Looking at one of the latest MGEVs podcasts dealers have been told to update every car that comes in for a service.
They may not give you the choice if you want the car serviced at all.

Can anyone tell me what has changed in MPU R33 vs R30?

My versions (Grey Trophy)
MCU 68.3.3.9 (seems lower than any other I can find, many seem to be 68.3.8.0 or higher)
MPU SWI68-29958-1300R30 (I know that at least R33 is around I'm just not sure what's changed)

No general problems with driving the car, I don't even mind the LKA but the infotainment is laggy, freezes on the satnav and Android Auto / Carplay disconnects often if I don't reboot the infortainment system whether I connect wired or use a wireless Ottocast dongle.

R33 will not cure your freezing sat nav , it still does that , also Bluetooth pairing is not stable, works for days then constantly unpairs then works for days again. So nowhere near right.
