MG4 Software Update Thread

It isn't good enough. 2 years in and the updates are still a shambles.

It will be interesting to see if things are different with the Cyberster, it is rumoured to have OTA updates from the start and to use different tech.

This is still the reason I wouldn't have another MG EV as things stand. The software side just isn't good enough.

I cannot disagree with you....

But it is not all installed at all dealers. Some dealers might install lane assist update without doing an infotainment update. Only update I got during service last week was for the auto highbeam. But I got some updates in November, including r46 infotainment and lka

I have to say it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. The car sticks to the bends like glue, no pulling over. Like you say the software updates are a mess just like the app we use. The main reason I bought the Trophy last year was having OTA updates , which still hasn’t been activated and I doubt it ever will with the MG 4.

How did you get your dealer to update the car? I had mine in last week, complaining about ACC, LKA and bluetooth and some other things. They updated from R40 to R46 to fix the bluetooth. About all the other complaints they just said “thats how all the MG4s are”. No updates.

Norway does not seem to have r59 updates. Only UK. And some MG France employees as I understood. So this is far as it goes for you.

TBH I told the dealer there is an R59 update and the issues it fixed were the ones I was having. I did have the modules updated the week before still under R46 but R59 is much better the screen is now more touch responsive always found that lagging in R46. You need to be firm with your dealer and say you have a lot of issues that you have read on the MG forum that were fixed with R59. You will find they will then do the update, if not I wouldn’t use them again and tell them that.

The main problem is that the did not update any of the other modules, so I’m still stuck with an ACC that brakes in curves, even though I told them there is a update for this problem.

Mate that’s not good enough. I wouldn’t use that dealer again. Have to say I had no problem with my dealer so much so they said if I see any more updates to call them and they will install them for me on my request.

You need to be firm with them - even going in when they're busy in the showroom and talk loudly about them not applying mandated updates. (SCUK001 is a service campaign - that's what SC means - update, and this update does the ACC change).

I took delivery of my 'New' SE LR on Octopus SS and was surprised to see car is showing R21 if I am looking in the correct place. The car is great so far but would it be better if it was up to date. Thinking from the jist of this thread that won't happen until I find and complain about any major issues. As a software engineer I just don't understand why they don't get everyone updated to the latest, surely they get less complaints and issues.

I agree completely. However MG are so tight with money that they will not pay to have everyone on the latest software due to dealer time and hence cost. OTA would of course been the sensible solution but they can't get the software on the car right nevermind trying OTA .

Just complain to your supplying dealer about the lack of external temperature indication (in that it is a potential safety concern when the colder weather arrives) and that should be enough to get them to install 1100R33 (which brings the indication back).

If only, unfortunately the supplying dealer was a big fleet management company 180 miles away. Think I am stuck where I am until such time as it needs a service whereby i expect to be somewhere more local. Was just so surprised to find a new car, manufactured a little over 2 months ago, seemingly so out of date on something so simple as a software build.

I have a lease company car, supplying dealer 200 miles away, I just contacted a local dealer and got it done free of charge.

Mines been in today - a whole host of modules updated (10 I think) but still on R46 - at least I now have ACC in 1mph increments and TSR seems a lot better as well. I'm in no rush for R59 unless I get BT issues - it has 'forgot' my phone pairing once, if it does it again I'll be going back.

So much for doing all the updates at PDI 5 weeks ago ....

Just updated to R59 on Trophy Long Range
Tuesday 4th June.

Updated to new version fixed a lot of problems from R46.
Enclosed is a letter from my dealer regarding the update.

Just had mine updated at the first service yesterday after complaining over a few issues. Are they suggesting that you can turn off Keep Lane Assist permanently from the drop down menu. I haven’t noticed anything different to the previous version where it would default back on once you have lifted your bum off the seat.

Nope - permanent turn off is not available*, nor on the horizon. The pull down option simply makes it easier to turn it off whilst you're on the move.

* except for some few people who seem to have software conflicts working in their favour.
