MG4 Software Update Thread

Oh, we need have glossary in someplace with all these definitions, what is the MPU, MCU, SW P/N, FICM ...
For the modules like FICM the SIPS report says

VDS doesn't help with acronyms but gives a little more info on software versions

Microcontroller Units (MCUs) and Microprocessor Units (MPUs) are two types of integrated circuits that are widely used in embedded systems

SoftWare Part/Number

Exactly, it's flipping ridiculous, bordering on negligent. And how many owners would even know if they were not on the forum, which many won't be.
My dealer (Baylis) were useless telling me they've done updates, with me asking 3 times beforehand, when they had not. Eventually got updated by Richmond Group, Bognor, who were very good.
Just say the lane keeping assist is erratic and they will do under warranty. This is all a known failing which needs sorting out. Also ask to update SIPP modules, which there will be updates.
You'll want to set front/cross traffic sensitivity to low/medium else it really shocks you will low speed almost phantom breaking.
R59 will give quick access (drop down top left touch down menu) to turn ELK off, so it does not object crossing road lines.

Btw if MG ever going to setup over the air updates like Tesla or we are eons away? This would solve many things and help owners update at home.

I’ve tried going through the 187 pages on this thread but can’t pinpoint something similar to my issue.

Twice now my dealer/garage have failed to perform an update on my trophy LR, and they’re saying it’s getting stuck at the third part (she did say which bit but I’ve forgotten). I know they can do the updates as another user on this forum goes to the same place and theirs was successful just last week.

Has anyone else had issues where the car physically won’t complete an update? I think it was on R33 when I left it with them last week, they’ve tried R46 I think in around May time and then tried whatever the latest one is now.

The garage is saying they need to speak to MG on Monday about it.

This isn't unknown, hopefully MG can help them get past this - often this can mean conversations with China which may take a while.

MGs update system is imperfect and can fail with certain cars for unknown reasons. It is most likely why they have become more reluctant to update all cars to the latest software.

I appreciate the reply and knowing it’s been heard before gives a smidge of reassurance. But I also know the garage have been successful in performing software updates before as they did one last week for @Lango but now mine is failing so it doesn’t feel like it’s the garage at fault.

So my XPower that was delivered yesterday is on R40, reading above it should be on R59?

Why can't they just do these updates before delivery!
Because unless there is a problem with the software MG won't pay the dealer.

If everything that you use works OK don't rush to get the latest updates as you could be swapping one problem for another and yes R59 is the latest version but you lose the vehicle hotspot functionality.

They really need to make it live here too.

As much as I like the MG4 to drive, I will not get another one when my lease is up. And almost all my concerns with the car could (and should) be addressed with software updates I can install on my driveway.
What concerns are they? Have you had it updated to R59? That should sort most things. Obviously s/w update mechanism is a bit rubbish, but if dealer applies pending updates all should be good.

Maybe I have an incorrect expectation but I think the car should be delivered on its most recent stable release, other cars I have now or in the past have been. I don't understand the requirement for a dealer to pay MG for a simple update of the software to each car.

I have been getting a black screen when plugging in my phone for Android auto although I haven't really done any diagnosis yet or checked the forums, not had the time.

They don't pay MG, but doing the updates is a manually attended process (not automated) and it takes time, so the dealer wants someone to pay for that time: either you or MG.

"Stable release" might be the biggest problem.??
