MG4 Software Update Thread

So r59 update from r40 to my XPower will give me..

LKA in drop down
ACC in 1mph increments

I turn LKA off on every car I've own that has it, just annoying, my previous VW was confused by shiny road repairs amongst other things.

I haven't used ACC yet, not been on any long runs, but 5mph increments annoyed me in a previous VW I had, 1mph is a must.

Is there anything else I'm missing?

As far as I'm concerned I should be able to get updates as and when needed without hassle OTA, as this is apparently not possible I'll have to tell them I have intermittent issues.

Don't care about hotshots issues, never use it.

After a few weeks now with R59 update coming up from R40 version I have mixed feelings as a MY23 owner with one pedal drive. There are some improvements but R40 didn't really have much issues with LKA etc and if you use OPD you are going into the car menu anyways to turn that on. I know some would complain that maybe the regen was too harsh when you released pedal but now with the upgrade it feels more like regen 3 rolling long time to a final stop so I'm using brake almost as much as I would without OPD on. I would be interested to see if any others noticed this with their OPD.
Also maybe not everyone's priority, as we probably all use AA or Carplay, but one of the reasons I wanted R59 was to have the option of EV route planning built in like every other EV brand on the market. Previous car was ZS EV and this also did not have this so for once I thought it would be good to have a fully functioning map and route planning system using the cars data instead of using ABRP with ODB2 dongle (and all the alarm triggers that causes). However, putting in test parameters to test the route planning I'm not impressed with its ability to plan based on the desired battery percentages entered. In below pic I tested the route planning to ensure I got to destination over 350 km away and arriving with 40, then 50 then even 70% on arrival. On all occasions it gave me charging stop at beginning (to bring up to 80 maybe) and then another charge about 100 km into journey and then no more charges for rest of journey and this is supposed to get you to your destination with 70% charge left on arrival. So it’s planning that in the final 260 km I'll only use 10% battery. That is ridiculous. Are others finding this planning very inaccurate? I'm not sure why they would add this feature while making it so basic in function and inaccurate.
OPD on Xpower / R59 is excellent for me. Town driving does not need braking, even 60/70, foot off pedal early enough, little to no brakes required although they should be used a bit just to keep in good order. OPD should be the default driving mode for all EVs, it’s far superior, easy and relaxing to not require manual braking. In terms of route planning etc, MG have some way to go. Maybe significant future updates revise software effectively in next 1-2 years.

Yeah, LKA set to medium sensitivity is ok, it’s ELK from the drop down that needs turning off, and stupid please confirm message is not required. OTA updates would
Be nice but given state of play it won’t happen for a long time if at all. R59 with module updates fixes most things. ACC works pretty well apart from slowing when you go to overtake. TJA is only any good in straight line, but hands on wheel is annoying.

Had my new Trophy ER for nearly 6 whole days now! I haven't delved in to investigate all the software elements and versions yet, apart from discovering that it's on r40 infotainment version.
This thread is now so long, and covers both SE and Trophy, which have different software versions, that it's difficult to know where to start.
Can someone point me to posts that cover how to check installed versions, download relevant files, significant issues / improvements with Trophy versions, please?

I had 1mph increments & OPD on R40, now have R46 & still have them

R46 adds overlay on carplay & android auto, available to DIY if you wish
R59 adds LKA/ELK disable via pulldown

I have R59 which was done at the last service and I still have the vehicle hot spot facility although I have to admit it is turning itself off at times.
ah but does it give you any data via the hotspot? The bug is that you can connect to the hotspot but anything connected cannot resolve web addresses to IP addresses so nothing actually works without overriding the DNS server on the connected device. Maybe you got lucky

I’m in a Trophy LR (not ER) and just got R59 finally sorted at the weekend. Collected the car yesterday and it still increases in 5mph on ACC instead of 1mph. I can’t find any setting to change this?

I can’t be dealing with going back to the garage (until my next faulty part has arrived to be changed) as I’ve averaged a visit every 2 months in the last year…!

I think it requires updating the module that manages the ACC, not the infotainment

Sorry to say if you want 1mph increments you need to go back to dealer

I can understand why people get annoyed at the process. Is there a scenario or fault you could mention that would get everything upgraded, or are you just lucky if your dealer does the full suite of upgrades?

That's an interesting message from your car at the top of your screen ?

Yep, that one is not part of the infotainment system but the ACC and associated modules.
Isn’t it crazy that we, on this forum no more than all the sales people, and yet any new owner would not know what should or could be updated and dealers either don’t check or won’t update modules unless a fault is reported. As we’ve said before, what a mess that annoys customers and damages the brand :(

Not as far as I know, you could just say "reprogram everything, how many hours labour do I need to pay" it took me about 3 hours but a garage will probably list all updates individually & charge you a day, it downloads a module, loads it to the car then deletes it off the computer before going to the next module so they can't keep local files if there's server issues or for quickness etc

Dealers can't easily check without the car being brought in - unless the system has been improved recently, it certainly used to be the case that the only way they knew what versions of software you had was by plugging the car in.

And in terms of what versions are available, we have heard that there is a restricted list dealers can see but lots of hidden patches that are only visible to the dealer if China makes them visible in response to an investigation.

Given the car is connected, a minimum should be remote fault diagnosis, and automatic software updates are rapidly becoming the norm.

I am pretty sure they will fix this - but it might take a new generation of modules / integration of system to make it possible - ie future new car models rather than retrofit.

Thanks, I could ask but I am not paying for it!

My car was delivered 6 days ago and should have been up to date when it arrived as far as I'm concerned.
