MG4 Software Update Thread

To repeat, it's not a fuction of the infotainment version. Mine changed when they did other software updates, at a service where they stubbornly refused to update the infotainment. The way the speed was selected (long press/short press) changed at the same time.

Semerkand says with R38 the distances were shortened...
I don't have any intention of proving it, but I'm just stating what I've experienced. There are differences in both following distance and object detection in ACC between r13 and r38. There are improvements especially in object detection. But everyone says that Acc has nothing to do with mpu or mcu. I don't know why. In the meantime, I switched to r33. There's not much difference with r38. But at least I can now see the numerical data in energy consumption in r33.

How do you estimate the distance? By couting the number of lane markers between you and the car in front?

Added to the drive

Checked several vins and they have either come up with 1 or 3 files, all 4 are in the drive

You can open the files with a zip program like 7zip winrar etc
Never loaded one but would expect that you just extract it to the root of the drive
Here's what MG say

I’ve spent some time looking into the four archives you shared.

I could be mistaken, but my educated guess is that these are files for the SIPS rather than USB upgrade files.

Here’s why I think so:

The .51 extension is uncommon, if not unheard of… why would MG provide such a file if it was meant to be extracted. In MG’s guidelines, it is clearly stated that the archive must be extracted at the root of the USB disk.

Furthermore, when I tried unzipping the archive—whether on Windows or Ubuntu—there’s always a conflict with 10 files, preventing complete extraction.

The TBox archive structure appears very different from that of maps or AVN archives.

I attempted to flash the .51 archive directly using the 23E32 files, but as expected, it failed. I didn’t risk flashing the extracted files since the archive was incomplete. At best, I’d expect it to fail, but flashing an incomplete file has a potential to brick a device.

I therefore strongly advise against attempting to flash the extracted archive!

One brain and 2 eyes are must be enough 😅

All MG files are like that, a string of 8 numbers followed by a 2 digit file type, like all the MG4 FICM updates were .01 as the file type
Some models it's .51 for the FICM

The other file types are

00 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14 16 51 52 53 54 56 69 80 90 95 A1 A2 A3 A4 A5 A6 A9 BM

All A* & 00 95 files are XML

02-16 90 can't read

80 text

All 5* & 01 69 are zip (53 DSP) (69 manuals)

As it says in the MG instructions for the TBOX there's a separate interface for some updates part or all of this file might be to be used on a PC, unfortunately there is a lot of information and files still missing

From the start I said here's the files but I haven't tried them and it's risky

The TBOX update via SIPS says to use the clear USB first, couldn't tell you if that's part of this file or if another file is required

The kind of thing that MG provides, the models at the end of the number is what I've added on files I've checked

You can open the A/C with a voice command, but you can not close it. By long press of the button on the steering wheel does make AA pop up again.
I can totally say you can close a/c system with voice with integrated voice commands.

Just click one time to left voice button in wheel and say AC off, assistant close to hvac but not heated seats.

If you ask this btw, may be i understand not correctly.

When I've tried it the only conflicts were between case sensitive files which windows doesn't register

Only Linux install I have is backtrack3 but I'd have to try and find the laptop, I had it dual boot macos snow leopard so could possibly try that method as well if I find it

I think I made a mistake. The initial point was not being able to swipe AC controls because AA/AC blocks the controls to open the AC screen with the latest infotainment updates.
I suggested to use the 'AC on' voice command as a work around. But that only activates the AC. It does not pop up the AC screen with the other controls such as vent opening, steering wheel heating, eco mode etc.
Indeed, the only work around to open the screen is double press the AC button (off/on). However, closing it to go back to AC/AA needs another button: long press of the voice command button on the steering wheel.
However, all this is based on r46. It may be different with other versions.

Mg could really help us if they added a number of voice controls:
-Open/Close AC/radio screen
-Next/previous favourite (station)
-Lane Assist on/off
-Lane Assist to Alert/Lane Departure Assist/Emergency Lane Keeping
-Open/Close Android Auto/Apple Carplay
- OPD on/off

Actually, even on a Linux system, case-sensitive file names are not supported on a FAT partition.

NTFS partitions can handle case-sensitive file names, but they must be mounted with the casesensitive option for this to work.

I can understand totally what you mean.

Sorry for misunderstatements. I agree with these terms(y)

Tested this at the weekend, was on apple carplay / navigation, said hi mg (voice answered and went to mg screen) raise temperature by 1 degree, temp was raised by 1 degree and screen went back to apple carplay / navigation without touching anything?

Been to dealer today, as we have the bluetooth issue. I asked for R63. Tech said that installations of R63 have been paused, as there is an issue with the battery charge slider bar after installation. It can only be set to 80%. He raised it with MG and they said to suspend any further installations while they fix it.

So I have now gone from R40 to R59. Previously had other module updates, they were unaware of the bluetooth issue that I repeated 3 times to them before the car went in.

Tech said R63 was to resolve heater temperature issue. Think I will wait until my next service in August to get that sorted.

Interesting. My dealer promised by mail the update would solve the temp issue.

Odd. I did the same this morning with AA and the screen did not come up. Same with ventilator speed.

Edit: tested again today with active app in AA (TomTom navi). Voice commands (temp and fan speed) do not pop up the screen.

Because r46 AA does not cover the top level of the screen, you can simply tick the icon to popup the screen the controls. It then opens on top of the AA screen. If I close it again the left side of screen still shows MG controls and not the AA controls. Bug....

I think we need to connect a FAKRA to Usb adapter directly to the tbox usb connector its the black 4 pin connector and extract the corresponding files on the usb drive and execute the update. The special PROGRAMMING TOOL is just this adapter cable.
An Mg technican was telling this to me......
