MG4 Software Update Thread

I think we need to connect a FAKKRA to Usb adapter directly to the tbox usb connector its the black 4 pin connector and extract the corresponding files on the usb drive and execute the update. The special PROGRAMMING TOOL is just this adapter cable
An Mg technican was telling this to me......

You’re probably right. I haven’t looked into the hardware components so far.

Do you know how to access the TBox and the connector in question?

I suppose this is called special programming tool (you said it already also) and in MG documents they say also "brush" tool. It could be really solution to about to update the Tbox.

Been to dealer today, as we have the bluetooth issue. I asked for R63. Tech said that installations of R63 have been paused, as there is an issue with the battery charge slider bar after installation. It can only be set to 80%. He raised it with MG and they said to suspend any further installations while they fix it.

So I have now gone from R40 to R59. Previously had other module updates, they were unaware of the bluetooth issue that I repeated 3 times to them before the car went in.

Tech said R63 was to resolve heater temperature issue. Think I will wait until my next service in August to get that sorted.

My Car charged from 60 to 100 last night and I'm on R63 ?

The real issue is we couldn't change the battery target from the car, only from the app.
So before R63, if U set 80%, the car will keep 80 in memory. If you set 100, the car will charge up to 100.

And other thing found by a french user : we couldn't set "charge until target" when we use schedule charging...

I'm still waiting for an update that fixes everything without something else not working. Seems like I have a long wait. 😂

How are people finding R63?
Someone i see around has just had it installed , still buggy but car now has habit of emergency braking when it thinks you are not slowing down enough of car in front.
Then need to Park and back to drive to move again.

It's not the Infotainment software doing that ... it's the firmware in other modules controlling that.

have the auto braking options been reset during the updates maybe? You might need to turn the sensitivity down if it is different to before

This is a vague statement. Is it emergency braking? Or is it ACC taking control earlier/harder?

Exactly. Not too much to ask for is it.

Quite honestly, I have become completely confused by the number of update versions and what they are supposed to fix. And I suspect many are in that position.
I just buy a car to drive. Not to have to search through dozens of posts in order to understand what the latest situation is.

And I can well remember being told by the guy who sold me the car in the first place (Drive North MG in Patchway Bristol) that I need not worry about software updates because they would be done OTA.

I think I bought my MG4 from the same guy. I've recently sold it and moved on because of the software....

Like i said, not my car but someone i know who has one and has just had it serviced and software updated .
He has had it for 18months and knows car function well and was saying it now over reacts when cars slow in front , slams on to a complete stop and he has to engage park and then drive before car will move again.
I have an X Power running R40 currently and have no wish to update it as it stands having come from having a Tesla for last 3 years and getting annoyed with OTA Stuff so want X Power left alone.👍
Also as it stands have no faith in MG to make a software version any better overall than what i already have, R40 works well enough.

I love the Tesla ota updates (got a 3 performance)

I am fining r59 better than the r30 I used to be on

The updates on Tesla are sometimes Ok but when they keep changing functions and re arranging things it becomes annoying.
I particularly hated the driver visualisations and a while back they threw much more stuff on there, wheelie bins, traffic lights etc plus the whole visualisation operation was crap.

I'm still on R33 (Trophy). I will not have it updated unless by some miracle they manage to come up with an update which fixes everything without buggering something else. So looks like I'll be sticking with R33 for next few years. 👍

Hello everyone!
First post here to thank the folks who have been contributing and helped me in figuring out how to get the right updates at the right time - lots of lurking and learning here!
I've recently become the second owner of a V2 MG4 Trophy LR (MG4 Luxury this side of the channel) which was first delivered with R40.
I've just got it back from the dealership here in Paris after a full day during which the technician updated five modules (FDR, FVCM, HVAC, GW, IPK) for the 1st year service, and I'm quite happy now that I've got it back - things seem smoother, the car doesn't try to kill me anymore, and R63 seems to be snappy but that's probably due to the factory reset I did when I got the car back.
The max charge setting is not working either with R63 so I'm hoping they'll publish an R63v2 somewhere and it doesn't require going to the dealership...
Other than that I don't think I miss many other things: I won't be using the advanced navigation features (I wouldn't trust them anyway), I don't mind setting up One Pedal Drive every time I start the car, and I've not had many problems since I got it anyway.
Cheers!
