MG4 Software Update Thread

It's supposedly to do with a security patch to the underlying Android system that runs the Infotainment system, to prevent "drawing over" on Android Auto (and presumably Apple CarPlay too).

And to be honest, a lot of cars don't overlaying infotainment system when AA or CarPlay is running. Remember, with old versions (Trophy before R46 for exemple), CarPlay and AA were displayed in full screen. With R46, the top bar appear and could be used. With R59, it was still there but unusable, except frog button. Same with R63

Is that correct that the pull down menu to disable elk was not working with AA active in R59?

Yes. You had to leave AA screen on R59 just like with R63. It's a slight inconvenience but I am used to it. The ELK menu is great and it's nice that the temperature numbers are no longer silly on R63. It would be lovely to be allowed to turn off ELK without leaving AA. What we really need is for say long pressing one of the star buttons to load a custom driver profile which includes MG Pilot settings.

Whist in android auto or car play;
Before R46 there was no top bar so nothing to pull down
R46 included the top bar and allowed you to pull down HVAC & quick settings
R59 & R63 still have the top bar but won't allow pull down

From memory for the SE it's;
Before R33 no bar
R33 had bar & pulldown
R38 won't allow pull down

If an SE owner can confirm this or correct it that would be great 🙂

IMO with the updates there's no need for the ELK button

R33 rather than R30 - but yes. :)

My knowledge of SE (UK) software is:

1100R13 (what was installed when I got my car)
1100R16 (I never had this: lost the external temperature indication)
1100R21 (I never had this: still no external temperature)
1100R33 (what I got at 1st service: returned the external temperature, got the new HVAC display, added the top bar in AA/CP and pull-down menu was accessible)
1100R38 (what I got at 2nd service: fixed HVAC temperature range and HVAC function [together with an HVAC module update], pull-down menu no longer accessible in AA/CP)

That has been suggested in previous posts as well. Fully agree.
But long press of a button to disable elk, or a cycle through with a long press going from mode 3, mode 2, mode 1 (alert) to off and back to mode 3 etc. would be a great alternative to going to the central display. To do it there still needs your eyes away from the road, particularly if you do hear the beep but nothing happens on that display ...:mad:

Although R33 was that way I thought R30 was the first to be like that

Anyone still have / remember R30 on the SE?

I don't think there was an R30 for the SE. There was 1300R30 for the Trophy, but I'm pretty sure the SE history of 1100Rxx is as I listed. (I could be wrong of course). :)

Could have sworn there was an R30 for SE but I must be thinking of something else as there's at least 2 different R30's, one for the trophy and one for another MG4

But looking at my history I found this picture that doesn't list it

what I don't get about this security issue is the star button A/C mini menu is allowed to draw over AA - not sure how that is different to the pull down menu?? Maybe its AA stops the swipe gesture being recognised by the MG software?

I'm only going by the versions actually released out into the "wild". We never saw R29 or R32. :)

In France, 2024 SE got R25 (SWI132-29958-1100R25).
2024 Luxury (Trophy) got R30 (SWI133-29176-1300R30)
Yes ... the newer models are SWI132 and SWI133 branch ... the older models are SWI68 and SWI69 branch. That's why it is important that people refer to the full software version when making claims about what is the latest software - it differs depending on the model year/build of the car. :)

Yours is probably SWI69-29958-1100R33 ... the latest version is SWI69-29958-1100R38, but unless you also get the HVAC module update at the same time then there's probably no point in updating.

PS - your profile still says Driving: Not an MG :)

Thx! Will probably let them update it at the next service.
