MG4 X Power Vibe/Hum 65 to 75mph

Any of you lot heard of the expression 'move on'?
Yes, but I've also heard the following expressions too :-

stop at nothing
be determined
be resolute
keep at it
not yield
work day and night
stick to one's guns
hang in there
move heaven and earth
leave no stone unturned
not take “no” for an answer
never say die

👍😊😉

Not sure what the quotes are doing there.

Well, the quotes are there because if you had read everything available then you would have read that CooperS was moving on to pastures new, ideally with zero vibes, less creaking, rattling and software that worked to his complete satisfaction.

I don't blame you for not having done so though, there is a lot.

Sadly, although I know he bought a Polestar 2, he has not been back to tell us all about it.

He deleted himself soon after.

Perhaps the news was bad?

Perhaps he is now the happiest driver on Gods Green Earth.

Perhaps he'd had enough of being admonished by Moderators at every lewd, political, or near the knuckle comment?

We shall never know.

So I for one shall move on with my life and get back to fixing this Feckin Generator!!! 🤣

still waiting for all my fix parts !!

But I've been forced to change the tyres sooner than I expected ( Too worn out for my liking ).

Not prepared to risk an issue with insurance with bald tyres !!

basically 20, 100 km done on the stock tyres !!

So my X power had got some shiny new, grippy Michelin pilot sport 5s :) :) YAY

Now to see what it can really do !!

Did you notice the immediate difference in tyre noise?

Get ready to be impressed, especially in the wet. 👍
To be honest i havent done more than 5 km on them guy came out fitted them for a crazy good price $1096 aud like $400aud cheaper than anywhere else..

picked up kids from down the road came home ..

Yet to actually do any real km on them yet ,,

later tonight will be a test for me ..

We are in summer here in AUS now that said its extra slippery after a hot day and it rains so ( while ive run on pilot sport 5s before on my 2012 volvo s60 T6 r design awd and know they are great in the wet ) be interesting to see how they perform on the X power !!

just need the Fix which should be soon just waiting on a few more parts to come in ..

Then lowering will be done ..

Mg titan sell the smaller look like real calipers pick your colour with X power decals caliper covers!! ( just not cheap AUD )

Then i think im finished for a while on mods / upgrades ..

I wanted to powder coat the wheels black but because of the bald tyres that plan will have to wait only other things im looking at is black out the silver accents on lower doors maybe a rear bar kit..

still might look at these wheels painted/powder coated black

Maybe a wrap of some description was debating between a yellow or a British racing green !!

Below is the experience of a French user after installing new engine mounts. This post can be found on the French Xpower community page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/316612340987839.

INFO POSITIVE VIBRATIONS
Summary of the situation:

My XP from October 2023 experienced the vibrations described by several of us.
It started vibrating at 70 km/h, and after replacing the steering damper (a mandatory step), the vibrations in the steering wheel decreased and instead appeared at around 90 km/h. This intervention clearly showed that it wasn’t just the steering wheel vibrating, but the car itself.
I also noticed a sort of rumbling sound inside the car.
Following the release of the MG technical bulletin, I forwarded it to my workshop, MG Cavallari in Nice.
To the great surprise of the workshop manager, there was no trace of this bulletin in France, and he expressed frustration about learning of it from a customer instead of directly from MG.
This workshop had already dealt with a vibrating XP at low speeds in early 2024. The owner returned less than a week after delivery, stating the car was undrivable. According to the mechanic, “it was impossible to drive like that.” Their diagnosis identified a failure in the engine mounts, which MG accepted under warranty, and the results were positive. The customer was satisfied.
I suspect this prior experience in the Nice workshop helped my case to be approved by MG under warranty, given the technical bulletin supports this diagnosis.
To my knowledge, no one else in the group has had a warranty approval for this issue so far.
Nice was waiting for my feedback to confirm whether the intervention was successful or if they needed to proceed with step 3—replacing the subframe if vibrations persisted.
This was completed today. After testing daily over a week, including at speeds where the vibrations previously occurred and even at high speeds on a familiar road (up to 160 km/h), I shared the following conclusions with the workshop:
    • First point: The rumbling sound during daily driving has disappeared, except on rough roads, where I believe it's just feedback from the wheels over uneven surfaces.
    • Second point: The car no longer vibrates at all, as confirmed by me and the technician who tested it with me and had previously noticed the vibrations before the intervention.
For your information, I’m no longer using the original tires.
The workshop will now report back to MG France, which I assume will validate this solution. However, I’m not sure how long MG will take to process their feedback—it’ll probably be at least another week.
In the meantime, you can share this information with your respective workshops.
I haven’t yet received an invoice or intervention report, as I assume it will only be issued once the warranty case is officially closed.
If MG rejects the warranty claim despite these findings, your workshops can contact Nice directly using my name; they’ll know which car it is, given how many times I’ve been there. Fortunately, I live nearby.
That said, I don’t know if Nice will respond to everyone due to their busy schedule, so your workshops should start by reaching out to MG France first.
In the photo, you can see the old engine mounts, which I’ve numbered according to the technical bulletin available in the group files. I couldn’t upload it here with the photo.

Tyre noise be it quiet or loud doesn’t bother me just turn the radio up 🤣

But in the wet WOW more so today as of now it’s raining but it’s been a hot day 32°C today. No rain till the last 20 minutes as of writing this and 1000% better even taking into account back when the tyres were newer ( not the bald fronts)

car sticks like sh.t to a blanket.. ( even in the wet)

These should have been stock fitment!!!

That might suggest an imbalance in the rotating motor/reduction ratio at around 9000 rpm (unlikely) . Or the rotating parts on the driveshaft side are producing a resonance at the speeds prescribed that coincide with a natural resonance frequency in the rubber mountings transmitting that vibration back through the motor. Changing the mountings for a stiffer/ softer rubber or ideally a dual compound rubber will the stop the vibes being transmitted to the chassis but might still be present within the motor housing. Alternatively making the driveshaft sides perfectly balanced should stop the primary issue, but as brake discs/ tyres wear down that would alter the rotational balances/ forces so altering that initial setup. Tricky!

Mine were very quiet compared to stock afaik.
Noticed the moment I drove out the fitters!
Not lost the back since either.
A very good tyre imo.

Did a bit of driving today still slipping a bit in the wet under big acceleration from take off ( to be expected ) but feels more planted and not as drifty at the front i get a bit of slip then grip and GO !!

100% yes it feels more planted on the road into corners and overall grippier for sure ( also to be expected being way better tyres than stock )

Also noticed the car seems to brake better too !!
( when you needed to jump on the brakes with the stock tyres im talking 100km/h plus it felt messy and not stable these feel much more stable and it overall stops much better )

As for sound i usually get into Margaret ( yes i've named my X power Margaret ) and turn the radio on !!

So for the quietness i cant really tell much but it does sound quieter than i expected !!

personally i would recommend Michelin Pilot sport 5s on most cars !!

They are fantastic in both the wet or dry
( i mean you need to curb you expectation they are not full wet weather racing tyres nor are they racing slicks or UUHP tyres )

But for street use that offer great performance there is little as good as them !!

Done a few longer runs on dual carriageways with long gradients, long gentle bends and various surfaces and i conclude i do not really have a vibe as such.
The only thing i will say is if you punch it up to the 65 to 70 mph zone sometimes there is a slight ‘hum’ in the steering wheel but if you ease down and then gently come back up to that speed it goes.
On a good stretch of road today as described above cruising in the 60 to 75mph zone and varying speed in that zone the car was a smooth as silk.
