Step one, rails bought and tested.
When you do go to fit 'for use, slide the front bar as far forward, and the rear as far back along the rails as you can... should then give the recommended separation for your bike rack

Lovely thanks, do I have to put the bike in the centre of the car or for ease can I just out it on one side so its easier to lift on and off as I probably can't reach to the centre of the car anyway. When you do go to fit 'for use, slide the front bar as far forward, and the rear as far back along the rails as you can... should then give the recommended separation for your bike rack. Will also position the clamp across the section where the foot and main bar on - so giving more 'meat' for the clamp to work on.
I'm probably going to need a sturdy step ladder also lolLovely thanks, do I have to put the bike in the centre of the car or for ease can I just out it on one side so its easier to lift on and off as I probably can't reach to the centre of the car anyway.

Since the bars are still not officially rated... but in my (humble) opinion mounting the bike rack as close to the side rails as possible would be the best option as it will give a more direct line of force down though its' base and in to the rail/foot of the roof rails.... happens to make the bike easier to load in to the rack tooLovely thanks, do I have to put the bike in the centre of the car or for ease can I just out it on one side so its easier to lift on and off as I probably can't reach to the centre of the car anyway.
But putting it centrally would spread the load evenly between both rails rather than mainly on one of them.Since the bars are still not officially rated... but in my (humble) opinion mounting the bike rack as close to the side rails as possible would be the best option as it will give a more direct line of force down though its' base and in to the rail/foot of the roof rails.... happens to make the bike easier to load in to the rack too.
Surely your would put it in a position that you can safely and comfortably reach unless you want to add the extra weight of a step ladder so you can remove the bike for use then replace the bike for the return journeyBut putting it centrally would spread the load evenly between both rails rather than mainly on one of them.
Anything that fits the VW Passat or VW Tiguan with open rails will fit. My Thule bars are 118cm and they are perfect size.Sorry John you've probably answered this but now it's been approved for 35kg what roof bars fit our MG5? Thanks
Yeah, I've got one of those which I use when loading my roof box on the ZS EV. Recommend, as it really helps with that extra leg up.Wondered if this was a clever little device, save taking a small step ladder around.
