Missing power when charging ("losses"?)

It'll be more convenient and quicker, more efficient and as its now part of your property should increase its value and saleability should that need arise. Amazon have many on offer so you don't really need an all singing dancing one, but you will need a trusted accredited sparky to install it.
I agree. Being able to charge the car overnight without making a special journey and having a guaranteed parking space next to an available working charger is worth the expense.

And yes, get a trusted sparky to do the work who is up-to-date with the latest rules and regulations not one who jumps on the bandwagon for easy money.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

So I've been wondering if I should install a proper EVSE instead of using the granny charger so as to get a better charging efficiency.
But given that we only use the car for low mileage I reckon we'd only break even with the cost of installing one after about 10 years :ROFLMAO:
100% do it. I was exactly the same but OH spent my money and went ahead. Worries about overheating plugs, gone. Long charging times, gone. Moving over to an ev tariff (even though I’m currently not commuting) so house alone has saved money by a lot of load shifting (washer, water heater, dishwasher).

Final bit - on the wait for an unloop so not sharing electrons with next door (future proofing) at no additional cost. Because I got in there first charger went ahead - been nearly a year - until it’s done next door wouldn’t be able to have a 7kW EVSE.

Pay for a 32A single phase socket to be professionally installed, and then buy a portable 32A 7kW three pin EVSE that you can unplug and take with you if you ever move.

(If you’re fortunate enough to have the option of 32A three phase then get that socket installed and the portable 32A 22kW five pin EVSE.)
