Just downloaded the latest to me free Naviextras SatNav updates, there seemed to be a reasonable sized file to download, and it took a while to install in the car(PFL MG5), just thought I'd let it be known.

Which version are you counting as the latest?
2023 Q4 Maps and an EV Station update, it was certainly the latest to me, as I haven't been on the Naviextras site for months, so I'm happy with it.

Just attempted to do the upgrade. Fingerprint process appears to work but the download is over quite quick, admittedly on a 300Mb connection. Plug into the car and it returns invalid files.

Tried it with 2 different memory sticks and formatted as Fat and exFat, all with the same result. Any suggestions as to what to try next.

Both 16MB, one was USB3 the other USB2.

Although the NaviExtras reports the files transferred OK there is only 46MB used?

This is the response I got when I contacted Naviextras looking for support:

Tried it again using my Mac, much the same result. The transfer to the key is reported as succesful but very little storage space is used. Then in the car the update is invalid.

The Nav info screen show a version 9.12.2.225929 with a date of June 2020, the map list shows the UK map is 2019.Q4

Hi
re MG5 EV SW

I had downloaded Naviextras Toolbox 4 and I note that MG5 EV is in the list. But via my car I cannot create a 'fingerprint' on a USB stick stick placed in 'USB 1 port' of the Front Console (this port is used for data transmission).

I cannot find instruction in the car manual, the Internet or this forum.

I know from the car system settings that I have HERE maps for quarter 1 in 2022.

But however, adventurous I get with the car or the MG iSmart phone app I cannot find a means to update my Map Data.

Any ideas
Many thanks
Dave

Which version of the MG5 do you have, pre-facelift or facelift? Your mention of the I-smart phone app suggests it is the facelift.

In which case, as I understand it, your car's Navigation system does NOT use Naviextras, but a different supplier. That's why you cannot update!

Hopefully, someone who also owns a facelift version will see this thread and post advice on exactly how you may update, at no cost I believe. Unlike Naviextras which charges for any major map update, usually in the region of £100. (Which is another reason why Google Maps, Waze, or similar, are for me now the much-preferred choice for route-planning and navigation!)

Hi
I got the MG5 EV SW Trophy car December 2023 so I guess it is face-lift.

With a USB key inserted and selecting Resource Update the car informs that resource from USB has No Map Data, No VR data or no Electronic manual.

So to my mind I need to have Map Data copied onto USB card or the USB card jigged to receive such data.

Seems a bit odd that the process to update maps is a secret. The verbiage on Naviextra site implies first map upgrade is free...

But you shouldn't be using Naviextras! MG used to use their mapping software (and hardware, presumably) but for the facelift MG5 they changed to a different supplier.

Go to this page, enter your car's 17 digit VIN Number (not its registration number) and check the list of available options shown. They should include any Map Update you need.

For the facelifted version I created the following post.

Hi emmrecs

re: Go to this page and updating SatNaV/maps in MG5 EV SW Trophy

The manual 'Map-Update_-ZS-EV-Comfort-edition-MG5_All-editions_2023-09-18-081956_ekjf' is new to me - looks good.. I got manuals from User manuals in January 2023 never occurred to me look again for Manual revisions!

MG5 EV SW current version in car was HERE_EU_22Q1 202204172242

In manual Map-Update_-ZS-EV-Comfort-edition-MG5_All-editions_2023-09-18-081956_ekjf there was a download link for latest map data.

Several attempts to download as network issues before success.

Once downloaded, extract files this might take twenty minutes plus.

Once extracted copy folder ‘maps’ and content onto SD Card. This might take over one hour. Prudent to turn off screen timeout as the copy might stop when screen saver loaded!

Settings in my MG5 EV SW my car does not have a Map Update option but there is Resource Update.

Using Resource Update there was a few minutes wait before there was an option to ‘Select map data from USB.

After a few minutes if failed with message ‘Failed to verify the map files in md5 mode!’

On another thread was the suggestion to remove ‘file_verification’ and ‘VN.txt ‘ in the USB root folder ‘maps. I did this and tried again – this time it worked.

Thanks for your message, I've just done my FL5 as well. Exactly the same experience as yours. Previously I had been giving up too early. It really takes a long time to read the drive.

I was having similar issues to update my maps on my 2021 ZS EV (paid £100) but it kept failing on install in the car. I was using a 32GB memory stick FAT32 etc on a Mac. I then formatted it on my windows PC and followed the same process (Fingerprint the USB, use NaviExtras to download the new maps) and install in the car which worked! FAT32ex on a Mac and win must be different :)
