Non-Charging

Just to throw a curveball here, my Trophy will charge on the 22kW Zappi at work whether the doors are open or closed, locked or unlocked. For the last few months I've been locking all the doors as I put it on charge when I get to work, but over the Christmas break I've popped in to charge and was sorting stuff out in the boot and noticed it was charging at almost 10kW without all doors closed and locked first. Locking the doors and then unlocking again does cancel the charge session.

Resolved: Note the above!! - Thank-you all! - thats where I'd been going wrong for the past few months in my hour(s) of panic!!

???

Whilst I apprechiate that this was your very helpful post - 'Pilot Error' message  sounds like the car is powered up??
Apologies for replying to my own post, and yes using a granny charger has been driving me nuts for the last 3 months,

.....BUT..... (and please call me stupid here!)...., and clearly where i have been going wrong is sitting in the drivers seat operating the info screen, whilst trying to get the blooming system to work, so how does one operate the central info screen (e.g. start charge, lowever charge rate etc...) if the car needs to be off?? -do we need to have to use the app (what happens when you have zero mobile coverage??), or reach through from the back seat (as to not sit in the drivers seat, which appears to turn the car on???) - yes I'm still in knots here

.... I'm going to try an experiment overnight, with my ohme charger (which todate has never failed - as its always been locked, and doors closed) - but I'll leave the car unlocked, and a door open & will report back tomorrow (yes I will park another car to block its exit incase anyone decides they have an urgent need to steel it  )

In the morning when you go to the car ?

....again my own post (I've just overridden the settings on the ohme charger), locked or unlocked doesn't make any difference, door closed or door open doesn't make any difference,

.... but powered on or off, makes all the difference! i.e. powered off works, powered on doesn't - clearly this is a 10 min expt., but at least as a community we are getting to the bottom of failed charges? (maybe??)

@Tig170 Certainly on my car (Trophy), I definitely needed to have the doors locked in order for the Zappi to connect to, and start charging, the car. Whether it is different with the , ahem, residential charger, I'll have to experiment to find out.
@Ayoull I should imagine that, once the charge has been initiated, you can unlock the car, get in and then power on. You'd then be able to modify any charging settings, listen to the radio etc whilst sat in the car.

When I use my wallbox, I simply unlock the car, plug in the wallbox (which makes the car do some clunking noises - not sure if that is forcing it to lock), I then lock the car anyway with the fob, and charging just starts.

exactly the same on mine, ... but what happens if the car is powered on, ive just discovered a flaw with my ohme charger (I think), in that if i press the max charge button on the charger, it over-rides everything and just starts (if the MG4 is powered off), no major issues - but anyone could come along and hook up

My Trophy was still powered on and charged. Hopped right out the drivers seat, plugged in charger, entered code on the Zappi, charge commenced while the car was still powered on.

Sorry just popped over from the ZS room do all your MG4 have three phase charging as I see you lot have all pins on the ZS L2 and L3 are missing

As per above ... LR versions (currently - pun intended) have 3-phase onboard charging; the SR version has single-phase charging.

Never mind that - how‘s Paddington?!?!
:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:He's a little grumpy, as left him in the car for a few days keeping guard!

I wonder if the type of wall charger makes any difference, or if it's the software version, as mine would not start charging unless the doors were locked initially ?
Now that I've been out, and have some capacity to charge - I thought I'd investigate further, so left doors open, powered up, and pressed that max charge button on the ohme wall box, and it still charged! - the reason why im so intrigued is that my (non standard) granny charger only works when the car is powered off (anyway once I get time I’ll investigate further) – see this post (here)

So I'm tending to agree with @Sloucher that certain chargers have handshaking issues?
