I have the MY23 MG HS + EV 'Excite' in Sydney, Australia: with the 16.6 kWh battery.
As summer storms approach soon, just wondering, just asking ......

In the event of a storm, or other such emergency, where power supply to the home is interrupted for very many hours, or over a day, is it possible to use the power from this car battery to feed the home?
Has anyone tried it here in Australia / New Zealand? What do I get / what do I do to make this possible?
Would be good; even if it is just to keep on a couple of lights, fridge, and the kettle for some tea.......

Few vehicles can power the whole house (Vehicle to Home, V2H), but several models can do Vehicle to Load (V2L). Basically, it runs the on-board chsrger in reverse, generating 220V AC from the battery.

Unfortunatley, a quick search seems to show that your model doesn't have this feature. If owners know otherwise, please post.

Not directly, but...

You could get an EcoFlow battery, and charge that from the 12V socket, and then run your appliance from the EcoFlow. The MG will keep the onboard battery charged from the main car battery. That would be enough for a few lights and a kettle.

Thank you. Are these EcoFlow batteries available in Australia with Aussie socket points? What ......W output and .......Wh capacity for this basic job : a kettle and two light bulbs for half a day!?

If this is the solution then I suppose I could just keep it charged and ready through the summer - stormy season in Sydney? (It many happens with trees falling onto power lines). Then forget about it April to October.

Yes, available from Total Tools. This is what I got: https://www.totaltools.com.au/20872...-delta2-max-power-station-battery-efdelta2max

Can't help you with the size battery you will need.

2.4kW, should run anything that you can run off a 10amp extension lead.

Capacity is hard to calculate, 2 light bulbs could be 200W if they are 100W incandescent, or 30W if they are LEDs.

A kettle could be 2kW but only for a few minutes depending om how much water is in it and how often you use it.

So you should be able to boil the kettle for about an hour, and the lights would depend on what they are, you have about 400 watt•hours left, so 2 hrs at 200W or 8hrs at 50W.

For us.
2kWh should cope with our night time A/C, but probably needs 3kW, don't think 2.4kW would do the job.
If I could tie it into our solar panel inverter, it would share power with the mains, and I could top it up from the car.
