Range

I have a first generation Trophy, and would love to upgrade to the xpower, however, I could not manage with the 50 mile loss of range. I wish MG would release an option for the bigger battery (74kWh?). Failing that, it may end up being a Tesla dual motor, when my lease is up.

I agonised over range when deciding on 2 new cars, then realised 97% of my journeys will sit easily within the range possible of the XPower, on the other 3% I will just plan a charging stop, simple for me.

I know in some areas this might be quite difficult but everywhere I go it's going to be easy.

I've found the Ave miles per kWh is very ambiguous, I'm going on a longer trip tomorrow Hampshire to Bucks, I'll try to remember to monitor it again.
Recently got a newly charged to 80% milage of a bit over 200, a couple of hours later it was reading 20 plus miles more, all down to temperature, but after a trip of around 50 miles, the two figures just didn't equate, it's electronic "best guess" I'd suspect. ??

Tis why it is called The GOM. ?

this is the same process I went through.

As the XPower can charge at 140kW 50 miles is about 10 minutes charge time. If you are starting from 100% that is a drive of around 150 - 180 miles (cold weather or motorway speeds) with a 10 minute stop to add the extra 50 miles. Those are ball park numbers with a safety margin.

I can't comment on the Trophy LR but I don't find range to be a problem in the X-Power at all. Illustrating the point I took the family up to Edinburgh from Bradford recently. Full charge on set-off, drove in eco. Car said on leaving i had 245 miles of range. Got to Washington services at just under 50% and plugged into a rapid charger. It charged to 100% in just over half an hour while we had a bite to eat and a stretch. As an FYI I do this journey at least once a year as my parents live just outside Edinbirgh. The half an hour/45 minute stop half way is something I've always done anyway. I got to theirs again with just under 50% battery, plugged it in via the granny charger and it was back to 100% by mid afternoon the next day. Washington services on the way down also.

Overall it cost me £18 per charge at Gridserve and I gave my mum and dad a tenner to cover any electricity bill. Compares favourably to my previous ICE cars doing the same journey where I would be looking at about £80-90 in petrol/diesel.

As above, we are ready for a comfort break well before the car's range is getting very low, With a bit of pre-planning most journeys can be done without a significant detour for a public charger. IMHO, given the relatively small price difference between a Trophy and Xpower, the XPower was a no brainer for me.

Just in case you did'nt know already, Gridserve currently have a 20% discount if you use their app. It worked fine for me first time of use ?

Good weather I get around 3 miles/kW, maybe just over with all the 50mph roadworks on the M1

My last 300 mile trip Edinburgh to Leicester I had 2 charging stops 1 of 15 mins and the other 20 mins. The 140kW/h charging speed when under 50% means you can add 100 miles range in the time it takes for a comfort break.

Left home with 100% charge and arrived with 25% (so could have reduced the time of the 2nd charge stop)

In the Winter this can drop to 2.5 miles/kW and you may need to reduce motorway speeds to 60mph
I've found the way you drive the vehicle can drastically alter the miles per kWh, the max range on my MG 5 LR is 300 miles in a MG5 LR in 23°C temperature that day.
Kind Regards

During the day in the summer I average 4.5 miles/kWh, just driving about through towns and countryside.

I suppose it comes down to yours and other posters definition of "could not manage" as if you've a frequent long drive that would cause frequent anxiety then I wouldn't be getting anything that couldn't manage that need.

But like everyone else says above, if it wasn't that often and the rest of your time you can put your right foot down on SPORT, the giggles would make me err on the side of xpower. But I'm defo biased.

Quick question: does your Trophy have the siren- song fitted that my xpower does which makes you want to drive it for fairly unnecessary reasons/ journeys? Could just be mine/ my imagination...

Siren-song??

What he's referring to is that I will get in my Xpower to go to the Tesco 10 minutes walk away to pick up milk just for the mood lift I get from pulling out of my drive and being able to hit the speed limit quicker that you can mutter the words "holy ^&*%"
So it's not just me ?
