My car went into Glyn Hopkins St Albans today, and they carried out the software update which has cured the Emissions fault. My car was the first one they updated, and I think whilst the fault was present the fuel economy appeared to worsen, which could have been due to the oxygen sensor not working properly with the engine management.
For about a week and half the car was struggling to get into the fifties mpg, on the return from the dealer it was showed a shade over 60mpg after the 20 mile journey.
They hadn't heard about the fuel cap trick...

Do you know how long this Software Update has been available Keith, I'm thinking (hoping) mine was done before I picked it up last Tuesday.

It was launched last week apparently...
However my car was one of the first in the UK, so more recent cars may well already have the update at build.

Sorry this is a software update to rectify the 'Engine Emissions fault ' warning and light.
Some on here have reported the problem, and have been able to sort it by taking the petrol cap off and on.
Although MG are aware of underlying problem, and issued the service update just last week.
My car was the first car Glyn Hopkins St Albans have updated, so until/unless you get the same warning you don't need to do anything.

Thanks Keith, that's clear now. aitch
