Reverse Camera SE LR

Thanks for the reassurance.

It seems like there are now two broad options, for each of which there are two sellers.

Two for around £120, two for around £85. They seem to have a lot of the same videos/photos, so I would guess that the cheaper ones don't include a camera but the more expensive ones do. Having a camera included that definitely works with it seems like the less stressful option.

It is reassuring that Aliexpress have a 90 day return policy, but what if I can't get someone to install within the 90 days?
When I purchased last year I think there was three options at the time, I stupidly didn't spot this and ended up with a box and no camera, it was simply fixed but buying with the camera has that extra reassurance.

Not sure what happens to your waranty though if the camera causes any electric issues ?‍♂️
You are not making any amendments to the wiring of the car that cannot be reversed, indeed the only real alteration is to unplug the video feed to the infotainment display and put the reversing cam in line with it, the AlieExpress box becomes a two way video switch, infotainment or Rev Cam display.

Cheers for that - much appreciated!

Another thing I've thought of today is whether I need to report this to the insurance company as a 'modification'?

In a way it should make reversing accidents less likely, though I suppose it is also something extra that could go up in flames within the car.

Nice to know that it can easily be reversed as well.

Once you have fitted the camera the car can be easily reversed :ROFLMAO:

IMO do nothing, no one will ever know its not standard fitment

Reversing the car was the cause of my problem in the first place!

You have to laugh at these things don't you.

Quote from a bodyshop to replace the rear end (bumpers etc.) is around £1150. That's assuming there is no additional damage to the unseen metal behind. Expensive bit of carelessness there.

Camera is looking like a good investment!

Going back to the start of the thread. I have also installed the number plate camera. It's taken some practicing to get used to, repeatedly backing into spaces in Tesco car park! But works well.

I got a number plate frame and put it on upside down to give the camera an extra margin.

Had the Reversing camera installed today, several months after receiving it from China.

Had to wait for car and fitter to be available on the same day.

The image isn't that sharp, but I'm happy overall.

It switches over to camera pretty quickly. Not a huge delay as some people have reported - just a second or so while it initiates.

Image here is of our drive and garage in the dark - the lights seem to do a good enough job.

Module + Camera were around £100, but fitting £300 from someone who specialises in fitting things like this (Digital Vehicle Technologies, who happen to be based about a mile away from us). Took him nearly 3 hours and he is a pro with all the tools.

Seems a fair price given the work involved and assuming they did a good job!
