Say Hello

I have a friend who has a mobility scooter and she and her husband were anxious to find a car that would take the thing without having to take it completely to pieces.
I am ok with folding the tiller (handlebars) and the seat after removal as I am capable but can't walk around all day at events or for miles. ?

In the future, if my MS progresses, I may have to buy a wheelchair and driven wheel attachment which, whilst they also come apart, the wheelchairs remain in one piece and rigid though low profile.
Since they have a 16-panel FiT solar system facing due south over the English channel, I would have thought that the sooner they find the right EV, the better their household finances will be!
My thoughts now are that if I am in a position to purchase an MG again I don't want a 1.5 engine at all. I am happy to aim for an EV but will have to be savvy with my charging as (right now at least) I live in digs and don't have access to a home charger.

Welcome Catie!

The MG4s boot is a bit small for a motability scooter. As others have said an MG5 or ZS would be better.

However, the MG5 is due to be replaced by the MG4 Estate in the near future. We don't yet know the size of the boot for that or which motor/battery/trim options it will come in.

Thank you very much! ?

That's what I thought looking at the capacity figures. ?

I saw the article on the MG4 estate recently and will be keeping an eye out for details!

The MG5 is fairly big and will take quite a load. My dear late wife’s mobility scooter was easiest to fit when taken apart. It could be carried assembled but was difficult to load due to the scooter’s assembled weight and low ground clearance. I even bought 9 foot telescopic ramps but even they didn’t “ flatten” the loading angle sufficiently.

It is (if anyone is looking to purchase it) easy to disassemble and reassemble. It then all fitted in the boot with the back seats up and the boot cover in place.
There’s enough room to take a few bags of shopping etc as well as the scooter.

That's kind of what I'm seeing. I used to own a mahoosive MG ZT-T (which I decided I didn't like in the end for various reasons) but I did love - as I do with my current Honda CR-V - the flat access to the boot space!

The scooter you illustrate is very similar to mine as you can see from the loaded boot photo earlier in this thread. Here's a pic it assembled so I am sure it will fit beautifully in an MG5. I quite like the earlier version pre-facelift with the big grill. ?

Would there be any reason not to have a first gen MG5 in another year or so when I hope I finally get my inheritance! ?

I’d say none whatever. It certainly appears to be a pretty reliable car suits my driving.

Hi @salty and thanks for the welcome.

My only other have-to-have is a big boot as I carry a small mobility scooter. I live with Multiple Sclerosis and currently the scooter fills the rear my 2003 Honda CR-V! That has about 527 litres with the load cover.

I do like the MG5 and MG ZS EVs. Especially with privacy glass at the rear.
Aye the five boot looks similar with the scooter in it disassembled.

Hi,

Martin from Denmark, owner or leaser of an MG ZS EV LR since october 2023. It's the first EV in our family and the general sentiment is joy. Coming from a shamed-by-taxes diesel engine 7-seater, the cost per km|mile in the MG is extremely low! We have little experience with longer trips, but it's not as nerve racking as we thought, being used to 1000+ km per tank full of very very wrong diesel.

Anyway, I like the MG car. I think there's a lot of room for improvement especially on the drivers assist side, and the winter was unusually could and snowy, which definitely gave some regrets to the lack of heat pump. But it's also room to grow and if they get it right like they did most things there's a potential for a long stay for the Chinese in Europe.

Hi Martin from Denmark ditto, bought exact same car in October in Australia and absolutely love it.

Hello there,

I have now joined the EV family :D

I am Graham from the Aberdeen area, would love to do a meet up if there are any plans for the future.

I recently bought a nearly new 2023 MG4 Trophy LR in the lovely red colour. Only 1700 miles on the clock for just under £20k. Absolutely loving it so far, even the LKA has been behaving itself in the main, I don't bother to switch it off unless doing rural road driving. I do get the odd beep and wheel wiggle but it really hasn't been too bad.

I have been lurking in the forums for a while to get some info about the car.

The only thing I would like to get sorted is the MGismart app. I've tried several times to bind the car but not been successful yet. I think my firmware is R40.

I'm not too bothered about that for the moment but would like to get it fixed by winter time for preheating the car.

Hope to gain some more knowledge from this forum and hopefully help out when I can.

All the best

Welcome to the forum! There's tons of discussion about the app because different people have different issues with it. Hopefully you'll get it sorted.

There are lots of members with MG4s from all parts of Scotland. There was a small meet-up last year in Edinburgh that I couldn't get to, and it would be nice to have another.

Thanks Rolfe

I have had a look through the MGismart thread for some help and I have tried quite a few of the possible workarounds. I will just keep trying now and again, fingers crossed it binds eventually.

Jump into the thread and see if someone can help. (My dealer bound the car to my phone when I collected it and it's been fine, even surviving the death of that phone while having an argument with an Ionity charger and the purchase of a new one.)

Graham, enjoy your new motor. ??

Hello all ?

I've just bought a 2021 MG5 Exclusive after much deliberation and lots of research on EV's. This is my first EV and so far I've done about 100 miles in her. I've had the ohme epod charger fitted and I have the OVO anytime EV tariff at 6.68p/KW.

I didn't get any mats, but I did get a brand new type 2 cable and the previous owner had bought the boot liner. Sadly I don't have any mats and can't seem to get my head around the measurements.

Welcome to the forum.
Check out the search bar as I am sure there's a thread or two about mats.

Hi everyone!
I’ve just taken delivery of a 2021 mg5 standard range. My wall box isn’t being put in til next week. So I’ve been Granny charging which works fine.

Last night decided to top up at the rapid charger by the gym and started it with my Electroverse app but although it started charging I couldn’t get the app to work properly and had to wait till it got to 100% to release the cable ??‍♀️. I’d left the card at home. Rookie mistake !!
Are there any other wee things like that that you’ve found that a newbie should know?
