SE balancing post update

I reckon mine hadn't been doing a full/proper balance charge for the last month or so, which may or may not have been related to a failing 12V battery, so last night set a charge from 10% to full. The balance charge took almost 2 hours to complete according to the Zappi.

Most interesting. Have you had any updates done recently ?

Since messing with it. I am most assuredly getting more miles out of a charge - not just the guessometer. After 2 commutes to work I’d be at around the point that 5hr scheduled charging would get me to approx 100% SOC. I’ve done 3 days and have 28% left.

Something is very different since my playing with its brain. I’m going flatten heavily again let it go for a monster charge again. My only take away for people is - get the updates (especially if you have an early one like mine-SE with tinted windows). They may cost you (in cash, time or grey hair) but genuinely seem worth it!

Edit: at around 30% with my toe down, no hint of restriction - then again yesterday was a tad warmer.

My November 22 SE SR hasn't had any updates since it was first serviced in summer 2023 the only recent change was replacing the 12V battery which went completely dead for the first time about 3 weeks ago. Before I changed the battery the 5 or so charges before that were showing some very odd plots like stopping for 15 minutes before restarting then stopping at 97% and not getting to 100% or doing any sort of balance charge.

Also recently it has been restricting available power to about 33 when SOC IS less than 20%, which it wasn't doing a while ago, again maybe related to the failing 12V or could be ambient temperature related.

It's going in for the third (45k mile) service on Tuesday so we will see if the dealer does any updates, different dealer as the last one told me a pack of lies and didn't sort any of the things I asked them to do.

I wonder if the balancing info is stored in volatile memory which could explain your experience and mine, with this monster balance helping the restricted power issue. EDIT: or if the car seeing a power issue triggers a flag for a balance as before my monster balance the restriction was worst I’ve ever seen it.

I wouldn’t hold out hope of the dealers doing all the sw updates on a service (mine full dealer servicing also). They only update specific modules if you scream about specific issues or is part of a campaign - is the story I hear and also my experience. Can’t really blame them - I started the updates at 9.10 and was on it all day (bar around 2hr for a cheeky Burger King break) finished at 17.30. Car became undrivable around midday very worrying, then 9 attempts at one module front camera (repeated failures after around 15-20mins of programming).
