Should I be worried about the number of used MG4s around at the moment?

Agree with what you say about the MG4.
Except the Home Charger/Trailer bit. You can charge an MG4 perfectly well on just the Granny Charger. If your needs allow.
I had every intention of getting a wall charger, fitted. But after 6 months ownership. I decided I really don't need one. 🙂👍 Obviously if you can't get your car close enough to your house, to charge it, with wall or granny. S'pose that could be a bit awkward. But folk do, do it.

I didnt really consider the granny charger, I've been lucky enough to never need it. But again if someone buying an electric car blindly and thought a granny charger was the norm they could get frustrated with the length of time to charge and get rid of it. Didnt Giles Coren do that with his Jaguar iPace, he didnt realise there were faster alternatives to the granny cable and sold it.

He didn't do his homework then did he.
To go into EV ownership totally blind, with ya finger up ya Arse. Is Stupid. 🙄🤪

It's different strokes for different folks.
Granny Chargers suit some. Wall Chargers suit others. And some have no choice but to use alternative chargers.
🙂👍

Amazing how many folk slagging of EVs have done this, There are also a number of folk who could do with sticking their fingers up their arses as it would prevent them from talking out it all the time😁

Yep, some haven't a clue and the slate the car and blame the manufacturer for their stupidity. Just imagine what a mess the rest of their lives must be if a simple thing like a couple of hours good research on a new car is beyond their 'aptitude'. They then take any opportunity to post as much negative garbage as they can when they see an opportunity when they make user error after user error.

There are a lot of MG4s around due to 2-year leases / PCPs ending and SAIC flooding the market with new ones and heavily discounting. That means they are great second hand buy.

Second hand supply will increase next year (because sales ramped up in 2023 and 3 year leases / PCPs are the most popular).

This will keep second hand prices low for the foreseeable future. My car at 2 years old is already below the MGFP set at 4 years. There is no way I will have any equity in it at the end of the term, but I may be able to offer to buy it back below the MGFP since their alternative is to lose even more money at auction. If not, I can walk away knowing I am protected against the worst of the depreciation.

I have had a lot of hardware and software faults, but it is an early car and these are now all fixed. I would consider buying another (ignoring the fact that I like to have a different make each time I change the car), but I wouldn't buy new again.

The thing to know about MG EVs are that the service / warranty / aftersales experience is generally one of the worst, although there are good dealers out there. They are cheap for a reason. If you can cope with that, or a happy to gamble on getting a good one, go for it.

Not the case over here yet, but maybe in a yr or two, I'd certainly grab another one if it was a good price ...... Love mine and it's only the poverty pack, I have another two with very low milage I bought cheap from a salvage auction house over here, so parts won't be an issue for me ;) :D So far it has cost $11 in "fuel" the rest has been from solar

Interesting too know about 2nd hand values , My car is currently valued at around £1200 less than the GMFV "gulp!"

Here neither, I have the only Orange Xpower in the country and second hand prices are very high for nearly all types of vehicle. Same with motorcycles. It's common yo see cars that are 10 years old only 25% less than the price of brand new.

Annoying yes. But why worry. Naff all you can do about it
The answer is obvious then... just sell your 'pre-loved' MG4's in Cyprus and you'll be £££'s in ;)

They even drive on the same side of the road as us!

Would have been a great idea until the UK left the EU, now imports from the UK are subject to import duty and vat (yes, even on used non-EU vehicles), so that will be an additional 29% on the value of the car thank you, another reason why cars hold their value here.

Thinking of getting an Mg4 - most likely Trophy LR. However I am a bit concerned by the number of low mileage / not very old cars on the markets as it would seem to suggest that a lot people get them and don't like them/have too many issues etc. So just checking in with real world owners here so get a feel on what it's like to own the car please? I have read a lot about the software issues and faults, most of which seem to be resolved in the end. And as in most things there are bound to be more social posts on issues than - i love the car - it's all good etc. Anyway I'd love your thoughts thank you
Welcome to the forum mate.

I got mine used with only 3k miles on the clock but I won't lie to you, I had a couple of serious issues in the first few months (My main infotainment screen died and despite repeated visits to my local dealer it was not fixed until about 3 months later). - However as far as I can tell that failure is very rare. You may notice a common theme on the forum though, a lot of us despise the MG after sales as they're pretty woeful.

But enough of that, the car itself is absolutely brilliant. Drives superbly, handles well and plenty of beans if you wish to use them. I have a Trophy LR and the range is good, the little extras it comes with are great too (ELK aside). And lets not forget how good the thing looks. Ignoring the screen fault I had at the start I cannot fault the car at all. I'd say go for it! 😁
