So, Long Range you say ?

Yeah the GOM fairies do like to have fun, if I got this out of my XPower I know I'm not driving right ;)

So glad I got a long range.

During the summer I got some good range - this photo shows what I was regularly getting from my LR! - no reset this was about 2,500 miles driving!

It's unrealistic if you reset it. If you leave it to do its own thing, it's trying to be realistic.
And it does a good job, mine is pretty accurate but I do 350 or slightly less kms daily in it so it can work itself out better.

After a year and 8 months of charging twice daily (as I don't let it go down under 30% even though a charger is not futher than a few kms away here) it can still make a realistic 425 kms. Yes at the start it will show 450 kms which when put on eco will go further up to 480kms range, so really happy with the car. Depending on how work is I can work 10 hours straight without charging, but here temp range from 20C in the morning to 27C during the day. But I can say I am really happy I got the MG and with the long range.

203 miles @ 100% which demonstrates well how the GOM can only work with historical data. I'll reset it now and potter about at 30mph for a month and it'll go back up to 295 ( which it was showing before I went on the high speed (ish) road trip.
Largely pointless facility - more gimmicky in my view than useful.
I just follow how much I've got left in real time and always recharge in good time. Not a problem ??
It works on the style of your last drive, so if you keep driving like that its what you are going to get from 100% charge. Drive slow and it will start to go up, it's not a fixed battery range.

D'oh - 5 years of driving evs and I hadn't worked that out.
Tbh a certain amount of tongue firmly embedded in cheek ??

My 64 kwh under normal conditions is rated to do a little over 400k on 100%. Whatever the GOM says I simply work on approx 4km for every 1% of charge showing. Unless it's really cold or a lot of hill work this works out pretty well. A good honesty check for the onboard wizardry.

Yes, hills will kill a bit of range, that is why I don't get the 480 showing range and only get around 425 kms.

I was driving a bit silly before putting it in the garage so lost some range :) but car is amazing on 225/40/18 wheels handles like a dream :)

Bear in mind it's not just the driving style, it's the weather. Cold temperatures and a headwind will both kill range, and the car remembers that too. Those of us in colder climates seldom see the sort of range you do, even if our driving is similar, and of course it's very season dependent.

We almost have one season here. It rarely get cold even in winter, so it will not change much. I saw more loss to heat when it was 38/42C than to cold. I don't have motorways here so all country is like city driving, although I still manage to do 350kms daily in my job.

Yes, too hot can be bad too, and isn't so good for battery life, but I don't expect to see such conditions!

But as they are liquid cooled they might lose some range but I doubt they get damage especially when car is with AC on all day. When I checked coolant in one of the tanks it was freezing.

I hardly ever reset, I reckon the display is going to be more accurate. If I’m on a long journey with my other half (a maths teacher) she keeps an eye on the dwindling charge, and relating it to how the.range estimate is changing - she ‘encourages’ me to lift my right foot a bit ?

I'd like to know how much recent driving the range estimate is based on and how it is calculated.

Is it using the previous hour, or 50 km or what? What sort of averaging is it doing? I'd have thought an exponentially weighted moving average of the economy rate with perhaps an averaging constant of something like 20-50 km would be pretty useful. That way it factors in all previous driving but weights most recent driving the most, then uses that combined with the energy remaining to estimate range.
