Software update

SCUK001 was the only update reference given to me when mine was updated and the ACC change had been applied. ?‍♂️

Just as a reminder ... these were the updates of which I was advised at my car's first service last November:

CCU module has been update as per bulletin SC47

We have updated the below modules as these aren’t part of the current recalls/bulletin

GW module
IPK module

We have carried out recall SCUK001 and this has updated BCM, EVCC,FDR module’s

Also carried out an update to the FCIM to R33 for you complaint of the Bluetooth issue.

Part of the problem is that the dealer can't check - they depend on the update process working correctly but it is not always reliable and there's no way for them to independently check the versions.
Are you sure? There's no way for module versions to be interrogated?
Then again, from what we've learnt over the past 2 years...

Yes, sadly, I have had it confirmed and Miles has also spoken about this. They only know what you have when they plug your car in for updates.

It is silly given the car is always connected and remote diagnostics should be possible. But apparently it all goes directly to China and dealers don't have their own independent access. They can tell you what the update software reports, not much else.

There is the eZS app, Android only, and designed for the ZS models. But it can probably tell you at least some of the module firmware version numbers.

Available from the Google play store, and of course a suitable OBD II dongle is required.

I've taken my car in again this morning for the software to be corrected after the last time when the update stopped the car being able to stop at 80% charge and the range appeared to be reduced to the SR level.

I've also asked them again to update the infotainment software as it keeps dropping the Bluetooth connection and I get a black screen when the auto lights come on during boot-up. I was still on R24.

Call me cynical but I have suspected in the past they've only done the minimum updates necessary if at all. This morning it seems my suspicions were correct as for the first time I've received warning messages in the iSmart app for power steering, brake system, tyre pressures, airbag and power steering again.
UPDATE: They updated the FICM, CCU, BMS, and IMCU and checked all the other software. They even checked the brakes and discs, tyre wear etc. They also checked if the car stopped at 80% charge, which it did, so I got 20% battery charge for free. And yes I'm now on the fabled R59 infotainment software.

I also left a concise polite note on the passenger seat for the technician of the faults and when they occurred which probably helped.

It might be my imagination but the car now seems quicker, but that could be a result of having a manual Fiat 500 hybrid as the courtesy car ?

Just had mine updated to R59 and got them to plug the laptop in and update everything required (they also informed me that there was a recall update?). It is the updated 18" wheel Trophy LR. Car is behaving better than before (my LKA has never really been a problem) and also can confirm that the car appears noticibly quicker in normal setting and seems to drive even better. It is good to have the quick option to turn off LKA (I drive different types of road). The updates were carried out as part of the 1st service, but I had to complain about iffy LKA and freezing screen for them to update to R59. They did have a few problems with the updates and kept the car overnight, I had a loan car so no problems

Great to hear you've had yours all fixed and tidied up, nice one!

I like your idea of leaving a note on the seat, I think I'll do the same when mine goes in for a service so I know they don't miss anything.

I did it because I noticed previously that the usually young person on reception doesn't know what you are talking about and writes down a shortened version of their interpretation of the fault.

Keep it short, to the point but include all the relevant information of how and when the fault happens. I also ended it with Thanks and my name.

I will have to remember that as well and leave a note... just booked mine in for 19th August. Got the car a week or so ago, and happy, but there are some issues with the software (R30, Trophy LR). The iSmart app won't bind even though they've supposedly unbound it from previous owner, the radio and satnav simply froze on a longer journey at the weekend, and wouldn't come back until I powered off the car and back on again (I've since found you can restart the unit by holding the home button).

Also LKA is very "grabby" - I'm not sure if they'll apply any update for that, but it was quite disconcerting on one of our narrower windy A roads the other day, when it pulled towards the centre line just as a fire engine was passing the other way!

Does the engineering screen not give more detailed info about some of the component versions?

To get the infotainment software updated complain that the DAB radio keeps dropping out and the Bluetooth looses connection. If there's no fault MG won't pay for the dealer's time.

It's been mentioned in the recent podcast and elsewhere that there is an update in the pipeline for the LKA and that owners will be recieving a letter from their dealrs about this.

If you've got the latest version of the iSmart app you should be able to request that the car be unbound.

Yeah - I have a few issues:
  • iSmart App won't bind (despite being unbound via MG support and v5c) - the app won't bind - simply logs the car in, but just goes back to the "bind" screen. No error, no prompt to unbind. It is latest 2.0.4 for android - explained that to MG support as well.
  • The radio freezes on long journeys and needs to be restarted
  • The satnav also freezes and needs to be restarted
I also mentioned the severe slow down with ACC round corners, and the grabby pulling to the right by LKA (which scared me half to death when it yanked me toward the path of a fire engine that was passing in the opposite direction at the time!), as I'm not sure if SCUK001 has been applied.

The woman on the phone for the dealer warranty line confirmed to me it would all be covered under warranty and there would be no charge when she booked it in.
