Tesla Supercharger Issue MG5 LR

Hi, will my 2024 MG5 be able to use Tesla supercharger? Going away to Northumberland next week and checked Zapmaps for nearby chargers and it shows a Tesla as being the closest to where I’m staying so would be handy if it’ll work? Might have to find a local one to home and test

Definitely try it locally first, and get the Tesla app to find out for sure which are open to all. (it only shows those that are).

Just been to local dealer to see if they can check if it has the Tesla update and they informed that they need to plug it in and try to do the update in order to find out and is 1.5 hours labour (£200). I would have thought there would be a record of how a new car left the factory. Nearest Tesla charger is about 20 miles away so a bit of a drive to go and try it.

If you can try another dealer.

Mine said they were not aware of the update (this was 5 months back) but they would check the car for any updates. If it showed as a required update they would do it for free if not it would be £95. When they plugged it in the updated showed as required and they were able to bill MG. They also did any other update they found at the same time.

Look on the Tesla app for the nearest open to all and try it. Cheaper than the dealer putting it on the computer.

I cannot believe that MG and their dealers are still supplying cars new 2024 cars as Finltous as above here that still are not working withTesla, disgraceful in my opinion. After all that’s gone on in these forums, when will they realise what inconvenience and in some cases expense they are delivering.

I do worry about what long term ownership prospects are when MG is well below par in their support for owners. I am the type that likes to buy a car new or nearly new and run it while ever it is passing an MOT and not costing a fortune in repairs. I really like the car but I can see me only keeping it another couple of years before moving on unless there is a major change in MGs approach to customer care - or tech savvy third parties are in a position to find a way of updating and enhancing - a bit like how nissan leafs can use a CAN bridge to put newer or bigger batteries in..

As it’s a company car my fleet manager has got it booked in to MG dealer on Monday morning to have the update done. I’ll go back to the same Tesla chargers afterwards and try it. Was thinking after it must have been an open charger as there was a non Tesla charging in one of the bays

If it's this one, it is:-

2023 Trophy FL here (registered July 2023).

Some dealers seem completely unaware of the issue. My two closest (Brindley Cannock and Wolverhampton) knew straight away what I needed, with Cannock quoting £159 and Wolverhampton £96.

I did try the dealer in Rochdale as I work in that area every week, but they didn't seem to know anything about it and suggested £140 minimum, plus extra depending on what was needed.

For the amount of times I charge out and about it's not worth me forking out to get the update done.

Understandably dealerships won't do work free of charge as they have costs to cover, so it's frustrating MG don't cover this under warranty, or at the very least, cover it free of charge along with a service.

Update: Budgen MG Telford confirmed that MG cover this so I've booked in there for the update FOC.

Update 2: Budgen emailed me to apologise and confirm the update is chargeable. They advised MG originally covered this, but policy has now changed and it is chargeable for FL cars.

had mine updated this morning and drove back down to Notts afterwards to try it out and a Tesla engineer was working on them so couldn’t use. Will have to put the sword to the rest when I get to Bamburgh on Wednesday
