Does this also apply to the ZS EV?Hi everyone here I to have had this response from Miles Robert’s from the MG podcast who has been pursuing MG motors for several weeks on our behalf to sort out this issue copy of the e-mail I have received from him this morning is below.
So you can show this to your dealers when you contact them if you need to.

Hi Les,
I've just got a message back from MG Technical, who have advised that we can update your EVCC module to sort the Tesla charging issue, and we can claim this cost back from MG under warranty. Result!
I've advised our Chorley Service dept of this, so if you want to rebook with them at your convenience, they will arrange this for you.
Kind regards,
Miles
Hi due to a change of tack by MG motors it is unsure what applies to what anymore so you need to speak with you dealer.Does this also apply to the ZS EV?
Good idea. Even better that you are volunteering to do the hard work ?As I wrote a lot of the more recent stuff, it would be easy for me to collate it which I am willing to do.
Anyway what do you think? Good idea or not. I would also appreciate comments from mods/admin as well.
The car was in for the SC052 CCU software recall - something that the previous dealer failed to notice or even do! It appears that this is quite old and is supposed to help cars that have charging issues. Still doing some research on the details. On its own it does not appear to solve the current Tesla issue, but it apparently did/helped when the Tesla open trial started. Still researching though.View attachment 27775
Tesla compatible now. More details to follow.
The MG position has not changed but the dealer did not charge me. I would not interpret this as a precedent as I am documenting stuff for them so there is a bit of give and take- mutual benefit for all. I suspect that if the car is in for other work, they would be more amenable. However bear in mind they have to run a business and they may or may not need to charge. That is their decision but ask nicely and who knows.Thank you for you update above shpub. I'm very pleased that yet another and got their vehicle sorted to enable Tesla supercharger use.
So may I ask was there any cost involved, and which dealer did these updates for you? This information may help others here.
Thanks.
Les
Good news, similar to my experience with Apple MG. I've also had success with doing all of the app steps and plugging in when the app tells me to. (FL5)The car was in for the SC052 CCU software recall - something that the previous dealer failed to notice or even do! The big thing I noticed is that it raises the 12 V DC voltage supplied to the car and lead acid battery to about 14,6 volts which enables the battery to be fully charged rather than the 70ish% level it was before. It was like the upgrade installed the parameters for a lead acid battery where previously it was for a Lithium one! It does mean that the car is less likely to suffer from the low battery voltage HV fault.
While they had the car I asked for the Tesla update and showed them the update/details for the EVCC that Miles posted on here. I stated that I had not been able to use the open Tesla superchargers and I understood that the upgrade fixed the issue. After a brief discussion, they came back saying did I understand the following:
"You know it doesn't work on all Tesla Chargers?"
Yes only the open ones that are in service as indicated on the app.
"There is a chance it doesn't work so we really need to know if it does, as we have no way of testing it here"
Yes, I'm going past Banbury so can test it there. More than willing to let you know for your future customers.
On that basis, they did the upgrades. I had the car back in a couple of hours. So next was the test!
Steve's Tesla recipe.
- Drive up to Tesla charging bay.
- Switch off the car.
- Fire up the Tesla app and make sure that that you have submitted and Tesla has accepted, a valid credit card and billing address. The app will complain if you haven't done this.
- Get out of car and plug in. The screen then shows a connected but not charging message.
- Using the app identify which charger you are using and press the start charge button.
- App comes back with an authorising message and then ....
Charging starts. 20kW for me but I was at 86% SOC.
To stop the charge use the app again and then you can unplug and go on your merry way.
It really was that simple. Sent photos to dealer. Both of us happy bunnies.
Just finished: There are now 4 FAQs summarising this stuff. This should stop people having to go through 933 posts...Good idea. Even better that you are volunteering to do the hard work ?
Just start an ordinary thread, moderators can change it to be an article or whatever later on.
Which MG5 do you have PFL ? FL ?I visited Toomey's at Basildon 2 days ago and asked if they have had any communication from MG re the Tesla charging problems he replied no. I told him it seems MG have stated that the EVCC software upgrade cost can be done on warranty (I hope I have got this right). He repeated it's an enhancement and it is changeable to you if you want to change the EVCC it will cost £1,000. Disappointing!!
2021 PFL LR.Which MG5 do you have PFL ? FL ?
Yes I am aware of that thanks I have been following this from the beginning. I wasn't referring to whether mine needed a software update or new part I was just highlighting that Toomey's at Basildon are unaware of any directive from MG about the update being covered by warranty as I am lead to believe.Check out the FAQ - you have a compatible EVCC so all that is needed is a software update - about £100. Time to negotiate or go elsewhere.
