Tesla Supercharger Issue MG5 LR

Popped into Chorley MG Burnley today to see if they’d book my 4 month old MG5 FL in for the update (I brought it from the Chorley branch but Burnley is near work) and they said that as MG are now classing it as an enhancement it’s chargeable and approximately £117 for the time.

For the amount of times I’d actually use Tesla Chargers it’s not worth paying ?
Worth checking when it goes in for service, Luscombe's Leeds did mine FoC as part of the service

Try asking them again when you are booking the car in for a service. My dealer did it free of charge while it was already in the workshop.

I tried to contact MG dealership Toomey's re my possible update to my EVCC I eventually after 3 attempts spoke to a lady there and she said a technician will call me back which never happened so today I went to Toomey's Basildon and spoke to service reception and showed the photo of my EVCC with number 11170476 he checked on his computer which has the details of what numbers could be updated and mine was not one of them, he said a new EVCC needs to be installed. Disappointed!!

All is not lost.... The first problem is that the three numbers that the MG missive recently sent out ARE not the EVCC build numbers that are on the labels. MG refer to an internal build number that is only available via the diagnostic software. Yes two of the numbers look like typos but they are these internal types.

If the guy checked the EVCC photo number against the numbers on the latest bulletin, they will not match up - hence the "you need a new EVCC". That EVCC has been upgraded successfuly according to owners on this forum.

We know they’re talking nonsense as that’s the same number as the sticker on my EVCC, which did get the software update & has now successfully charged on a Tesla supercharger?‍♂️

I think that the person you talked to mistook the part number for a hardware number, or however that goes ?

From this post by shpub, about half way through the text:
I think I have found out why MG are quoting "different" build numbers...
Two of the build numbers seem to be a typo but this piece of info from ASRtichy explains things. When is a part number not a part number? When you have a build number, ECU part number, and an ECU hardware reference as well.

I’ve just called into my local dealer (Luscombes in Leeds) as I was passing and had a couple of minutes spare to ask about getting my MG5 facelift updated to use Tesla charger. I was reassured that the person on the service desk knew exactly what I was referring to and said it can be done for free as part of your next service or £80 if I just want to book it in.

i have contacted MG customer care who have told me that the Tesla update is available for my 23-plate MG5LR, but have not answered my inquiry about Cost.
My nearest MG service centre quoted me £360 for the update! (& would take 3 hours.)
having read the earlier posts in this thread, can anyone let me know what i have to show them that it does not cost me anything?

If its a 23 pfl that must be one of the last ones! Trouble is while they appear to be a warrenty fix, there has been nothing from MG to confirm this. The result is it is a bit of a lottery. It can be upgraded but when I enquired about it at multiple dealers, I did get several different replies.

Either the dealer is misinformed or he is pulling a fast one. The cost is around £80 to £100 for the software upgrade if you have to pay for it. Given that some dealers have been asking for silly money - £1000 in one case - it is possible that they don't want to do it so price accordingly.

What is needed is a copy of the invoice showing what was done and how much? My car is scheduled to be done next week so fingers crossed. In the meantime I would suggest contacting several other dealers. I did find I got different replies when I visited compared to the phone though.

Hey

My MG dealer said they were not aware of this being a require updated but would check.

Once they connected the car to the "system" it showed the update as being "required" by MG so there was no charge as they just claim it back. They also did any outstanding general updates as part of this.

MG5 FL 22

I think we know it does work for FL but here is a quick pic of my second time using them at 47p/kWh.

FL with free software update.

It’s crazy they cost the same as my local lamp post chargers. ( I rely 100% on public charging due to London Flat.)

Work out at 1kWh / min to go from 40% to 80%.

Was also interesting as a car pulled up next to me and asked how I got my car to charge as a friend of his could not. Of course I was armed with all the knowledge from this chat. Turns out his friend has an early post FL so probably going to need hardware and software.

I spoke to my dealer today and they said they were aware of an update but that it was still being worked on for pfl cars.

They are very nice and helpful though

My PFL LR had the update a few weeks back and now charged on both V2 & V4 Tesla units successfully.

That’s very reassuring- still to have mines done. Considered not bothering as I’ve very rarely been in the vicinity of a Tesla charger when I need its power. I might reconsider after the hols.

I now have the Tesla upgrade on my PFL 2021 MG5 LR. Next is to try it out!
What's your EVCC part number? I was told that mine needed changing although I'm not convinced, same as I'm not convinced by the 100% SOH on my service document.
